Be it known that I, MosEs M. MARoUsE, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Reversible Pouring-Spouts for Cans, of which thev followin is a specification. A
his invention relates in general .to reversible pouring spouts for cans, and more particularly to pourin spouts of the character shown in myy atent No. 1,114,011, patented Oct. 20, 1914.
The principal object of the invention is the provision of a pouring spout which may v be carried upon the nozzle ininverted position during marketing of the can or container provided therewith, and which may be placed in operative` position by the consumer, and whenso placed may be opened and closed through a simple manipulation of the spout and nozzle parts.
Other objects andv advantages of the invention will be apparent as it is better understood from the ,following description when considered in connection Iwith the accompanying drawing illustrating a prevcontents are shipped and transported, it is highly desirable that the pouring spout be made reversible so that the same will be inclosed within the nozzle usually found upon the can and thereby protected from injury,
and so that also th'e presence of the spouts will not necessitate packaging the cans or containers in larger boxes or crates. In transporting certain classes of liquids, such for instance as those used for disinfectants, it is important that the pouring spout be kept free from contact or contamination while so arranged, in order that the user' spout and nozzle having the spout in' operative position; l Fig. 2 is a similar view showing it reversed and in condition for shipment;-

Fig. 1 is a section on vthe line 10-10 ofFig.8. m y In the embodiment of myinvention shown on they drawing, a round threaded nozzle 11 is provided at its lower end with a frangible seal 12 secured to the nozzle or can in any suitable fashion. The nozzle extends a` substantial distance above the sheet 12 and is provided with an inwardly extending flange 13 upon which the nozzle top and spout rest. L
A nozzle top or plate 14 of diameter substantially equal to'or less than the outside diameter of the'nozzle is provided with an aperture 15 located between one side of the center and the edge. is depres ed to form two lips .or prot'uberances 16 which engage in recesses 17 cut in the flange 13 of Vthe nozzle. The spout in the present instance consists of a cylindrical pouring portion 18 secured upona base plate 19 of about the diameter of the top plate 14. The lower end 21 of the cylindricalpart 18 extends through the base plate 19 to which it is soldered or otherwise secured.
