GIRDLE.
Application led October'25, 19.26. VSerial No, 144,196.
My invention relatesto new and useful improvements in girdles and has for an object to provide a garment which will snugl encircle the formofthewearer. y Still anotherV object ofthe invention is to provide a girdle having hose supporters secured to certain portions thereof so thatV when the garment is in use and the hose supporters fastened to the stockings, 'the l0 girdle willy be tightly anchored in place and cannot ride up or slip up on the wearer.`
Still another'object of the invention is .to
provide a girdle with front and back'pieces;
elastic inserts, shorterA in Vlength than the l v front and back portions and a plurality of hose supporters crossing beneath the elastic inserts to thereby tightly anchory thegar-` ment to the figure. 'w
With these and other objects in view, the
invention Consists in certain new and novel 'arrangements and combination offparts as will be hereinafter more fully described and pointedout inthe claims.` f Referring now to the drawings showing a preferred embodiment of the invention,
Fig. 1 is a View of thegarment in itsv open or outstretched position. 4 l Fig. 2 is a side view showing the garment as it will appear on a-human form.
Fig. 3 isa similar front view, and
Fig.v 4 is a rear or back view. Referring now to the drawings, more in detail, there is shown `in Fig. 1, a girdle comprising the back piece 1, which is preferably formed of an inelastic cloth Vmaterial similar to that used in the manufacture of all corsets. The material, or girdle as a whole, is reinforced by the .plurality of ribs or stays 2 which extend throughout the width of the garment.
In the formation of this garment, there is secured to the opposite ends ofthe back piece 1, the two pieces of elastic material 3, which pieces are designed to stretch hori zontally rather than vertically, and, as may be seen in Fig. 2, the length of 'the'back piece and elastic material is such that these two pieces of elastic material are arranged to come directly over the hips of the wearer, so that a certain freedom of movement lis obtained which would not otherwise be the case.
As may be seen in the several gures, the front of the garment is formed preferably of two pieces, that is, there is a piece 4attachedalong the freeedge of one of theelastic pieces of material 3. rIhis front piece 4- is also reinforced by three staysf and is provided along-its free edge with the usual row V oov The other end of the garment comprises l the piece 7 which', together with the pieceof hooks 6. V
4, formsfthe whole frontV of the garment.'` 7
Along" the edge 'ofthis piecey of materialv are the usual eyelets* 8 to receive the aforementioned hooks. Y p
The girdle is relatively narrow in --width,
so that it 4will not encumber thefwearer, and
at the same time will support/'the stockings andholdthe body in straight lines'as is 4 the style at the present time.
vIt is to be' noticed thatthe elastic pieces 8 are shorter in length than the width of the garment'so that two vnotches or-indentations 9 are present,- Whiclnof course, Aallow the. portions l1, 4` and 7 to adjust themselves toV the' shape ofthe wearerespecauy at their lower edges. Y y
Referringnow to Oneof the principal parts i of the invention, attention iscalled Vtoy the plurality ofliosev supporters attachedy to they lower edge of the garment; It will be seen the indentation 9. A supporter 12 with two that a supporter 10 is fastened to a corner. 11 of 'the piece 4 andright at -the one edge of straps 13 and 14 at its upper edge visV also Y .sewed to the opposite side of the indentation 9, as may beseen at thepoint 15. vThe supporter 10 is now designed to' extend between the straps 13 and 14, of the supporter 12, asl
may be clearl7 seen in the severalviews.
ln a like manner, the hose supporters for the otherleg are positioned at the points 16 and 17, arsupporter 18 passing between the straps 19 andv 20 of the supporter 21. y
Referring now to Figs. 2, 3 and 4, and first -to Fig. v3, it will be noticed that the supporter lO'fastens to the lstocking 22 in the rear, whereas the supporter 12 with a double strap will extend to the front of the stocking. In a like manner the hose supporter 18 comprising the single strap will be secured to the stocking in the rear, whereas the sup-y v porter with the double stra will be secured to the front ofthe stoC ing. The pull,
therefore, on' the supporters will tightly an-y chor the girdle to the wearer, the vrear portionvo'f the garment being pulled from the abdomen in place.
front of the stocking and the front portion of the girdle being pulled from the rear of the stocking, thus snugly holding the girdle in its desired position. v
From the foregoing it will be seen that I have providetd'vwhat might be termedv an athletic garment orgirdlewhich is designed Fiirthermore, by placing thev diagonal strain on the severalA parts of the garment, even thoughthe wearer be athletically inp clined, theI garment will' be held tightly in positionY andwill not ride .upto the discomfort of the wearer.
I have spoken 3throughout the specification as thegarment being in theftorm of a girdle, but vI donot wish to limit myseltto an undergarment of such narrow width or height,
as other garments V`of Greater width or height might -well be use ,.i AAlso, although the elastic is generally. placed. over the hips,
elastic in other places might be used in the v garment, or the elastic sections could be done away with.V
I am aware that itr oldtoform augirdleV of front and rear pieces andto formgirdles Y with indentations and 4n otc, hes, ankd to provide hose suppoiterswith girdles, fbut Ido not claim my invention broadly as such, but
what I do claim and vdesire to secure by Letters Patent is A 1. A girdle comprising a front and rear portion, elastic inserts between saidportions, hose supporters fastened to the front and rear portions and the hose VSupportersv fastened to one portion *extending through the hose supporters i'astened to the other por- `tion, so that the pull from the front of the stockings will extend to the rear portion and the pull from the rear of the stockings willv extend to the other portion of the v.Q /ofir'clle. Y 2. `A girdle comprising front and rear por! tions oit' .inelastic material, lelastic. material between the front and rear portions designed to come over the hips oit'l the wearer,1the
elastiesections being of less height than theV adJacent inelastic material, pairs Loic hose supporters respectively extending below the f said elastic portions kand each pairarranged to have one of their supporters kpass through the other so that when thel girdle is worn the strain will extend from the rear of. thewearer -to the front` ot the garment kand vice versa` porters, each of which has one supporter extending to the front portion of the garmentl and one tothe rear portion of thegarment,
the supporters extending vfrom the i`iont.porl tion iny both instances .respectively passing. through the supporter fastenedV to the 4rear portion of the garmentV so ythat when; the
garmentis worn it will betightly ,held inposition.
