POCKET STAMP.
Application filed April 28, 1927'.
This invention relates to a pocltet stamp for stamping the name, occupation and address of a person. or the name and address of a corporation, company, firm, etc., when occasion requires, but it designed primarily for one stamping his name and address upon a hotel register to dispense with the writinpy of the same, but it is to be understood that a stamp, in accordance with this it: invention can be used in any connection for which it is found applicable. and the invention has for its object to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth a foldable and extendible article of such class constructed and in arranged, that when folded, it will correspond to the shape of the body of a fountain pen whereby the article can be conven iently carried in the pocket of or removably connected to a garment.
Further objects of the invention are. 'to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a pocket stamp which is simple in its construction and arrangement, strong, durable, compact, having the appearance ot' a fountain pen when closed, thoroughly ellicient in its use., conveniently extended for the purpose of stamping and comparatively inexpensive 'to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts as hereinafter more specifically described, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an embodiment 3;, of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes. variations and moditieatious can be resorted to which tall within the scope of the claims hereunto appended.

A pocket stamp, in accordance with this invention includes a tubular retainer which is constructed of any desirable material and is formed with a closed end 2 and an open end 3. When the retainer and cap are connected together, the former appears similar to the body portion ot' a fountain pen. The diameter ot the retainer l is such that it can be conveniently handled, as well as enabling it to be readily mounted or inserted in the pocket of a garment, and further when inserted in `a pocket of a garment, it will not impart a bulging` ett'ect to the outer wall of the pocket. Furthermore the diameter of the retainer is such that it can be conveniently connected with a garment by the well known form of clasp now employed for such purpose for fountain pens and pencils.

The slot -further includes a side wall 8 which extends in the same plane throughout and terminates at opposed ends of the wallst, 7. The slot 8 further includes another side wall formed of a pair of end portions 9, 10 and an intermediate portion 11 which is disposed at right angles with respect to the portions 9 and 10. 4The portion 9 terminates in the end wall 7 and in the outer end ofthe intermediate portion l1 and the portion 10 terminates in the inner end of the intermediate portion 1l and in the end wall (i. The portion l1 provides for the portions 9 and 10'to extend in parallel planes. The portions 9 and 10 oppose the end wall S, but the portion 9 is arranged nearer the side wall S than the portion l() and by setting up one of the side walls ot' the slot with the end portions 9 and 1t) and intermediate portion 11 the slot is provided with a wide part 12 and a narrow part 13. The wide part 19. is positioned between the intermediate portion 11 of the side wall. of the slot: and the closed end 2 of the retainer and the narrow portion 13 is positioned between the intermediate portion 11 of the side wall of the slot and the peripheral threads 4lof the retainer. The, intermediate portion 1l provides a shoulder to constitute a stop for a shi't'table element to be presently referred to and the end wall also provides a slot for a shiftable element to be presently referred to.

A device for lthe purpose set forth comprising a retainer, a carrier normally completely enclosed by said retainer and capable of being shifted for a portion o'f its length from one end of the retainer, impression member carrying elements pivotally connected at ther inner ends to one end of :paid carrier, actuating means for and pivotally connected to the elements for moving them to and from stamping position with respect to the carrier, means pivotally connected to said actuating means and slidably connected to said carrier and retainer for shifting said actuating means to provide for the moving of the elements to and from stamping position, means connected with said carrier and slidably connected to said retainer for bodily shifting said carrier and actuating means together for a portion of their length from the retainer, whereby the carrier will be shifted from normal position, said means further providing for the return of the carrier to normal position, and said retainer provided with means for limiting the shift of the carrier from normal position.

A device for the purpose set forth comprising a pair of impression member carrying elements shiftable to and from stamping position, a carrier having one end pivotally connected to the inner ends of said elements, pivoted means slidably connected with the carrier and tc said elements for moving them to and from stamping position, a retainer for normally completely enclosing said elements, pivoted means and carrier, said pivoted means slidably connected to said retainer, and means for slidably connecting said carrier to said retainerand providing for the shifting bodily of said elements, pivoted means and carrier 'from normal position and projected from the retainer thereby permitting of said. pivoted means to shift said elements to stamping position.
