JOSEPH D. GALLOWAY, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPRovEMEN-r In GAS-Firmas LAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 165,089, dated June 29, 1875 application tiled May 22, 1875.
T0 all whom t may concern Be it known that I, J osErH D. GALLowAY, of Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and Improved Gas-Fitters Lamp, of which the following is a specification:
The accompanying drawing represents a vertical central section of my improved gastters lamp.
My invention relates to an improved lamp for gas-tters use, with blow-pipe and whitelead box attached in such a manner thata convenient and handy tool for the dili'erent work, at a saving of alcohol and time over the old styles of lamps, is obtained.
My invention consists of a gas-iitters lamp that is provided witha hollow handle, forming the blowpipe,in connection with a ilexi ble tube swiveled thereto. The' whitelead box is screwed on the wick-tube of the lamp,
, A iiexible rubber tube, c', is attached to a swivel-joint, a, or otherwise, at the lower part of the handle to supply the current of air from the mouth to the stationary-handle part at any position of the lamp. The upper part of the blowpipe G extends to such a height "above the wick that the current-issuin g orifice bis at the proper height for throwing the draft on the flame.
'lhe stationary position of the blow-pipe,
in connection with the ready handling of the lamp, allows the llame to be directed to any desired point with the greatest nicety, by which the burning of paper and paint and the discoloring otne work are avoided.
The lamp and blow-pipe may be used with one hand so as to leave the other disengaged to hold and steadyV the work. The fixed position ot' the blow-pipe admits the use of a smaller wick-tube, and also asaving of alcohol by the more perfect utilization of the same. The white-lead tube D is screwed on the top of the wick-tube for covering with its lower compartment the wick, and preventing ithe evaporation of alcohol.
The upper part contains the white lead, and is closed by a screw-cap. in this manner their white-lead boxes always within reach, without being exposed to the chance of losing or mislaying the same.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patentl. A gasiitters lam p, provided with statica ary blow-pipe at the side of the same, formed in the shape of a handle, in connection with a flexible air-tube swiveled thereto. substantially as and for the ,purpose set forth.
`2,. The combination of the wicktube of the lamp with the closing white-lead box, serving as cappieces of the same, substantially as described.
JOSEPH D. GALLOWAY.
