Letters Patent No. 93,117, dated .Tub/V27, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN' LAMIELB'U'RINEIRS.
The Schedulereferred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern: y
Beit known that I, JOHN M. PERKINS, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga, and State of Ohio, have invented a certain new and `improved'Lamp- Burner; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and complete description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, mak' ing a part of this specification, in which-' Figure 1 is a perspective view.
' Figure 2 is a top view with the capremoved.
Figure 3 is a vertical section.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in th views.
The naturev of this invention relates-to the construction of a lamp-burner, arrangedso that the lampl may be iilled without removing the burner, it beiug provided with an extensible tube for that purpose, passingdown by the side of the wick-tube, the said llingtube having ,a large mouth at the `top, and provided with a lid, which, when thrown back, extinguishes the iiame of the wick, and covers the top of the wick-tube.
A represents the body of the burner;
B, the wick-tube; and
C, a filling-tube.
Both these tubes are made telescopic, so that they may be adjustable for fitting various depths of founts.
At the top of the filling-tube O is an enlarged .charnber, B, provided with a lid, E, covering the same; vthis chamberis designed to facilitate filling the lamp.
The lid E has a projectionE, and, as will be seen by dotted lines, fig. 3, when thrown up, the the said projection covers the top of the wick-tube B.
Bythe side of the wick-tubeB are two small tubes, h and i, one longer than the other. Thelong one terminates near the top ofthe vwick-tube B.
' These two tubes act as a Siphon, the short one, h, supplying air to the fount, while the longer one, li, emits the gas to the ame of the wick, the heat of the i llame causing a draught up through the tube i, and
drawing the gas, while air enters and passes down the tube h, to supply the vacuum.A
By this means a safe and steady light is produiod.
The burner is supplied with wick-wheels, and a cap u for chimney, in the ordinary manner.
What I claim asmy improvement, and desire to secure by Letters Batent, is-
l; In a burner, provided with the extensible fillingtube U and wick-tube B, the tubes h and i, all constructed and arranged to operate as herein described and shown. I i
2. The combination and arrangement of the extensible lling-tube O and wick-tube B with the burner A, as and for the purpose set forth.
. JNO. M. PERKINS.
