Description

w. T.A ROBIN SDN.
Scale-Beam.
N0 164 Q38 Patentedlune29,1875
@im J. kmwm.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM T. ROBINSON, OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN SCALE-BEAMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,938, dated J une 29, 1875; application filed M ay 14, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that LWILLIAM T. ROBINSON, of Huntsville, in the county of Walker and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Scales; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which willenable others skilled in the art to which it pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying` drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon', which vform a part of this specification.
My invention relates to the movable Weight used on scale-beams5 and it consists in the construction and arrangement of the weight to slip over the scale-beam, and with a roller, upon which the weight rests or is suspended, in combination with a locking device, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In the annexed drawing, Figure l is a side view of a .scale-beam and weight embodying iny invention, partly in section. Iiig. 2 is a transverse section ot' the same.
A represents a scale-beam oi' suitable construction, having its upper edge made either smooth or with notches, and graduated on one or both sides, as desired. The weight B is constructed in such a manner that it will slip over the scalebeam A, and have its front and back open, so that the graduation ofthe scalebeam may be seen. In the upper part of the weight B, immediately above the slot or opening for the scale-beam, is made a recess for the reception of a roller, b, which moves upon the upper edge of the scale-beam, and upon .which the weight rests or is suspended, thereby facilitating the movingvot the Weight back and forth on the scale-beam, the roller to be smooth or with notches on its face, as is desired, to correspond with the scale-beam. In the center of the weight, on one or both sides, is an index-point, a, to show the number of pounds, &c., on the beam. At the top ofthe weight B is a locking-lever, D, provided with projection c to tit the teeth in Wheel b. This lever is pivoted at c, and has a curved projecting portion, h, by which the lever is raised when desired. The lever D is held down by the spring d.
When it is desired to move the Weight the part h of the lever D is pressed down, the weight moved, when the spring d throws projection c of the lever into the wheel, and the weight is locked;
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The scale-beam A and weight B, in combination with the wheel b, lever D, and spring el, all constructed as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I affix my signature in presence ot' two witnesses.
` WILLIAM T. ROBINSON. Witnesses:
