IMPROVEMENT IN STILTS- Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 168,2 [3, dated September 28, 1875; application filed July 26, 1875.
To all whom it may concern I Be it known that I, FRANKLIN BEAUMONT,
J r., of the city and county of Dallas, and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Stilt; and I-do hereby declare that the fol lowing is a full, clear, and exact description "of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation Fig. 2, an edge View of the stirrup; Fig. 3, a plan view of the same.
The invention will first be fully described in connection with drawing, and then pointed out in the claim.
-. A represents a stilt-rod, and B a tube or,
which projects over the lugs b, and is provided with a spring, E, that throws the lever against the rod A, to hold it at any point of adjustment.
The weight of the stilt-walker bears on the long end of lever, and compels the serrated end a to gripethe rod with great firmness.
v In constructing my devices I do not confine myself to any particular form of the tube or sleeve B, and may make it of a cylindrical form, as shown, or of a polygonal or square shape, the latter form adapting it to stilt-rods finished with flat sides by a plane in the absence of a lathe for turning the circular form.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is The combination of tube B, slotted at b, the thereto pivoted lcver 0, attached to or made in one with the foot-plate, and having serrated end 0, and the stirrup D, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose specified.
