Application filed July 5, 1927, Serial No. 203,605, and in Germany February 27, 1926.

The present invention relates to an improved shaving brush, the bristles of wh ch are made of soft vulcanized rubber and use from the top surface of a cap made of the same material, the cap being attached to a handle of wood or other suitable material.

Special objects of the invention are to render more efficient, serviceable and durable in operation shaving brushes of the kind rere ferred to.

lVith these ends in View the invention consists in the novelcombination, arrangement and adaptation of parts, all as more fully hereinafter described with reference to the i5 accompanying drawings and specifically set out in the appended claims.

Fig. 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of the improved shaving brush.

Fig. 3 is a side elevation, partly in section, of another modified construction of the improved shaving brush.

Attached to one end of a convenient handle a of wood or other suitable material is a cap .7), the top surface of which carries an assemblage of bristles c. The cap I) and the bristles c in the shape of fine spikes or filaments are made of soft vulcanized rubber enabling the brush to be readily cleaned and easily maintained aseptic. Practical experiments have demonstrated the fact that such a brush is particularly well adapted for creating and rubbing in lather when shav- To enable a firm attachment of the cap b to the handle a the circumferential wall (2 of the cap is internally provided with an annular bead e fitting into acorrespondingly dimensioned annular groove f in the handle a near the butt end thereof. The bead e and the groove 7 may be preferably in the shape of a male and of a female double cone, as shown in Fig. 1, so that a snug fitting of the two parts is obtained.

Themodified construction of my improved shaving brush, which is shown in Fig; 2, differs from the construction de scribed with reference to Fig. 1 in several respects.

In the first place the cap 6 is provided with a cup-shaped rim 9 encircling the bristles a at their base portion to form a reoeptacle for water or other substance flowing from the bristles c of the brush after being immersed and placed upright in lathermg.

In the second place the bristles 0 rise from a concaved base provided by the cap I). This concaved base allows the Water and lather to gather at the center of the brush when placed upright and prevents their ready escape from the cup-shaped rim f in manipulating the brush.

The connection between the cap 5 and the handle a is effected in the same manner as that described with reference to Fig. 1. In both instances the cap 6 may be readily detached from the handle a for cleaning purposes.

In order to facilitate the tight attachment channels it may be provided on the inner surface of the circumferential wall d5 of the cap I), said channels it allowing the escape of air from the interior of the cap 5 when pushing the latter over the butt end of the handle a. The formation of a disadvantageous air cushionbetween the cap 5 and the handle a at the butt end of the latter is thus prevented and the proper position of the bristle filaments c in their assemblage on a firm base is secured.

If desired, the cap 6 may extend the full length of the handle a as indicated by the W reference letter Z: in Fig. 3, thus roviding a soft grip in manipulating the brush.

I wish it to be distinctly understood, that I do not limit myself to the precise constructions shown, variations in the arrangement and combination of the several parts being possible according to desire or requirement Without departing from the scope and spirit of the invention. W
