UNITED STATES" MAURICE MARONEY, OF MGLEANSBORO, ILLINOIS.
DOUBLE-GARAGE-DOOR-OPERATING MECHANISM.
Application filed August 14, 1926. Serial No. 129,189.
This invent-ion relates to double garage door operating mechanisms and has as its object the provision of a simple and practical device for opening and closing garage doors from the interior of said garage.
Another object is to provide a mechanism consisting primarily of pulleys and cables which are operated by a lever arrangement.
Other objects and advantages of the device will be apparent from the accompanying drawing and specification.
In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the device, the doors being closed. I
Figure 2 is a partial side elevation of the device.
Figure 3 is a top plan View of the device, the doors being open.
Figure 4 is a detail of the arcuate arms.
This invention is carried out upon the conventional double garage door and provides for the elimination of the usual liX- tures mounted therein for locking the same. The invention comprises right and left hand arcuate arms 1 and 2 formed with a base 3 as means for securing the said arms at the top of the garage doors 4,, on the interior faces thereof. A lever 5 is provided and pivoted medially to the under side of the root supporting cross beam 6 as shown at 7. The said lever 5 is provided with apertures 8 in its ends 15 and 16 adapted to provide means for securing cables 9 thereto. Pulleys 10 are secured above the doors 4 in line with the arcuate arms 1 and 2. Pulleys 11 are secured to the right hand wall 19, while pulleys 12 are secured to the left hand wall 20. The said pulleys 11 and 12 are located at such a height as to be in alignment with the pulleys 10 and the arms 1 and 2, all of which are in turn in horizontal alignment with the lever 5. Sheaves 13 and 14 are secured to one of the interior walls of the garage on either side of the pivot point 7 of the lever 5. A primary cable 17 is secured to the right hand arm 1 with one end and passed over the pulley 10 adjacent said arm 1, and then over the far pulley 11 and is secured thru the aperture 8 in the end 15 of the lever 5 and then has its free end passed thru the sheave 13 and depending from the said sheave 13 for securing to the right hand wall 19. A cable 17 is secured with one end to the left hand arcuate arm 2 and passed over the pulley 10 adjacent the arm 2, and secured with its free end in the aperture 8 in the end 16 of the lever 5. A secondary cable 18 is secured to the left hand arm. 2 with one end and passed over the pulleys 12, and is secured thru the aperture 8 in the end 16 of the lever 5, and then has its free end passed thru the sheave 14 and depending from the said sheave 14 for securing to the right hand wall 19. A cable 18 is secured with one end to the right hand arcuate arm. 1 and passed over the pulley 11 adjacent the arm 1 and with its free end is seemed in the aperture 8 of the end 15 of the lever 5.
In operation, doors are opened by pulling on the primary cable 17 which draws the end 15 of the lever 5 toward the sheave 13 thereby drawing the said lever 5 into hori- Zontal alignment with theends of the garage. This action opens the doors 4 thru the medium of the cables 17 and 17 In order to close the doors the operation is reversed by drawing on the secondary cable 18. When the doors 4 are closed the lever 5 is positioned at an angle of approximately to the side walls of the garage.
Vhile I have herein described a certain specific method of constructing and assembling the elements of my invention, it is understood samemay be varied in minor details, not departing from the spirit 01? my invention as defined in the appended claim.
I claim:
In an apparatus for opening and closing MAURICE MARONEY.
