Fig. 3 is a section taken on line 3-3 ofv liig. 2; and g Fig. 4 is a section taken on line 4-4 of Figure 2. t
Various considera-tions frequently make 1t desirable to exchange the'blades of scissors. It will be readily agreed that various users of scissors may nd one pair of scissors Which ts the hand better than others, has a better joint between handles, cut more freely than others, or has any number of desirable features not found in other pairs of scissors. But the blades of scissors may require frequent sharpening, may require sterilization. after short use as in barber shops, may through frequent sharpening become unfit for further service, or the blades may be required to be changed for other kinds of blades for other service; in these and many other cases it is often convenient to exchange the blades of a pair of scissors While retaining the same pair of handles.
Referring to the drawings, 11 represents the handles of a pair of scissors, which are pivoted about a pin 12 in the usual manner. The handles eXtend a certain distance beyond the pivot to form stub blades 13 having flat surfaces Working together. Each stub blade has sockets 14 formed in the end and extend- A cutting blade 15 has tines or plugs 16, Which are adapted to extend into and closely fit the sockets 14 until the body of the cutting blade abuts against the end of the stub blade. The sockets may be made in any desired manner or of any desired sectional outline. The

At least one of the tines is pro- A preferred form has two such l vided with locking meansto secure it against Working out of the socket and such locking means may consist of a latch plug 17 dis-v y posed in a transverse bore 18 made in the stub blade of the scissors in such a manner as to fit in a notch 19 in a tine 16. The latch plug 17 carries a stem 20 extending loosely through a bore 21 to one side of the stub blade. The plug is held in locking position by a spring 22 disposed around stem 20 and contacting the plug and one end of the larger' bore 18. A thumb piece 23 may be secured upon the other end of stem 20 for snapping the latch out of position When removing or inserting a blade. For convenience of assembly the thumb .piece may be threaded on the end of the stem aft-er the stem has been. pushed through the bore 21. A plug 25 closes the end of larger bore 18 after the locking device has been inserted.
Although one embodiment of this invention has been described, it is to be understood that the invention is not thus limited but may have various embodiments Within the scope of the appended claims. y
Having thus described the invention 'what is claimed as new and desired to be secured by Letters PatentV is:
1. Improvements in scissors, comprising a pair of bladed stub handles pivoted near their bladed ends, each of said handles having a pair of rectangular sockets in the stub end thereof, one of said sockets terminating short of the pivot and the other socket extending past the pivot, detachable blades for said handles, each having rectangular plugs of unequal length adapted to fit in said sockets, one of said plugs having a notch on one fiat side and a spring pressed plunger carried by each of said handles slidable into said notch to retain said blade on said.
handle.
