Description

U ITED STATES PATENT QFFIGIZO LAZARUS LOESER, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO CHARLES SHAOHNO AND HENRIETTA LOESER, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN SHAWL-STRAP HANDLES.
Specificationforming part of Letters Patent No. 164,848, dated June 23, 1875 application filed May 28, 1875.
combination with the hollow supporting-bar of straps for shawls and other articles, and with loops, which form the guides for the straps,- the nose of the spring-latch being square at one and oblique or curved at its opposite edge, in such a manner that by pulling the straps in one direction they are retained automatically. by said spring-latches, and the operation of tightening the straps round a package is materially facilitated.
In the drawing, the letter A designates a bar, the body of 'whieh is made hollow, as shown in the drawing. Said bar may be constructed of metal, wood, or any other suitable material or combination of materials, and it may be covered with leather or other suitable material, or it may be left uncovered, if desired. On this bar is secured the bail B and two loops, G O, which form the guides for the straps D D. In the exterior of the hollow body of the bar A, and beneath each of the loops 0, is situated a spring-latch, E, which is provided with a nose, a, and with a fingerpiece, I), both the nose and the finger-piece be ing guided in openings in the top plate of the bar A. The nose a is square on one edge and curved or inclined on its opposite edge, as
shown in Fig. 2, and the straps D are provided with a series of oblong slots, 0, intended to engage with the nose at. One end of each of the straps is firmly fastened to the bar A, and the other end is carried round the package, and then it is passed through its loop 0, and, by'drawing the loose end through said loop, the straps become tightened round the package, being retained automatically by the nose of the spring-latch E.
When it is desired to release one of the straps, the corresponding spring-latch is depressed by its finger-piece b, and then the strap can be drawn back, or its loose end can .be drawn out of its guide-loop O.
By these means a strap for shawls and other articles isobtained, which readily adapts itself to the size of the package to be carried, and which can be fastened round said package with the greatest facility.
What I elaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a strap for shawls and other articles, the combination of the hollow bar A, spring-latches E, guide-loops O (J, and straps D D, all constructed and operating substantially in the manner herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of May, 1875. v
