FOOT WARMER FOR FURNACES.

This invention relates to a foot warmer for a furnace or similar heater, and the primary object of the invention is to provide a novel form of drop door or plate having thereon holding means for the feet as an attachment to part of the furnace or heater, the said drop door or plate being readily closed when not in use relative to a part of the furnace or heater, and easily lowered for use as a convenient foot warming means without interfering with the general heating function of the furnace or in the least affecting the preferred symmetry and general design of the furnace.
The invention consists in the preferred construction and arrangement of the several parts which will be more fully described and claimed.
In the drawings Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a cabinet furnace showing the improved feet warming attachment applied thereto;

Fig. 3 is an enlarged transverse vertical section of a portion of the furnace showing the drop door or plate in open position.
The numeral 5 designates a cabinet furnace which is known to the trade as the Martha Washington circulating heater or furnace. It is elevated above the floor by suitable legs 6 and has the usual interior structure of a furnace including a heating space 7 and a grate enclosure or wall 8. In the lower portion of the outer side of the furnace over the space 7 an opening 9 is formed which at its lower end is shaped by an off-set structure as at 10 to preserve the symmetry of the side of the furnace at this point, and applied to said opening is a drop door or plate 11 which entirely closes said opening when shut, the drop door or plate having at its lower end and at opposite sides lugs or bosses 12, one on each side of the bottom of the opening 9, said lugs or bosses being apertured to receive a pivot or hinge rod 14 of the door or plate 11. At the upper central edge portion'of the inner side of the plate 11 is secured a-rolled catch spring 15, to engage the inner portion of the outer side '7 of the furnace or heater to hold the said door or plate 11 in closed position.

The door or plate has on its inner side a corrugated projection 16 formed with two seats 17, said projection extending transversely with relation to the door or plate and serving as foot holding means or rest-s. On the outer side of the upper corners of the door or plate are suitable lugs or projections 18 which are adapted to rest on the floor surface as props for the door or plate as clearly shown by Figs. 1 and 3.
hen not in use the door or plate 11 is closed as shown by Fig. 2, the spring acting on the hinge connections to prevent loose falling of the door or plate, and at any time desired for use the door or plate is lowered by grasping the lugs 18 as handle means and lowering the door or plate as shown by Fig. 3. The feet are applied to the inclined door or plate as shown by Fig. 3 with the heels resting in the seats 17 and the toes uppermost toward the heat space 7 adjacent to the wall 8 to advantageously warm the feet without any inconvenience to the person in view of the fact that the feet are held in nonslipping and reliable foot warming position by engagement with the seats 17.
It is proposed to form the drop door or plate 11 in any manner desired, but it is preferred that the same be cast with all the parts thereof formed at one operation. However, the invention is not limited to any precise mode of forming or producing the plate.
It will be seen that the drop door or plate does not in the least interfere with the heat ing function of the furnace nor the desired symmetry of the latter, and is always ready for service by a very simple operation.
What I claim as new is z 1. The combination with a furnace having an opening in one side, of a drop door provided with means on its inner side for holding the feet and having outer prop devices to rest upon the floor.
2. The combination of a furnace having a heated air passage and an opening in the side adjacent said passage, and a drop door fitted in said opening and hinged at its lower edge to expose said opening and permit the feet to be projected adjacent to the said passage, the door having means on the inner side for holding the feet.
8. The combination of a furnace having an opening in one side, a drop hinged door at its lower edge to the side of the furnace at the bottom of said opening and adapted to close the latter, said door having; means on the inner side for holding the feet, and a yielding catch means etteched to the upper edge of the door to maintain the door in closed position, the door being provided with feet holding means on the inner side thereof.

The combination of a furnace having an opening in one side, a drop door hinged at its lower edge at the bottom of said open ing and adapted to close the latter, and means on the inner side of the door for holdin the feet in position for Warming, the outer side of the top edge being provided with Combined props and handles.
