IMPROVEMENT IN FLOORING-CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,754, dated June g2, 1875; application filed December 28, 1874.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMES T. Moss and GEORGE J Moss, of Ashborough, in the county of Clay and State of Indiana, have invented a new and Improved Flooring-Glam p, of which the following is a specification:
Our invention consists of a fulcrum for the clamping-lever of a flooring-clamp contrived by a plate to bear on the upper side of the joist, and another to bear on the under side, connected by exten sible plates, extending along one of the vertical sides of the joists, to adapt them for joists of different sizes, and to hold them so that they gripe the joists, and thereby hold fast on them when the lever is forced against the flooring without any other fastening, thus saving the need for andthe labor of adjusting special fastenings for holding the fulcrum.

A represents the gripingplate, provided with perforated extension E, adjusta'bly held by a detachable pin, I, in a grooved plate, F. The latter has a retaining-lip, O, which bears on the under side of beam. G is the lever, havin g pawl H, and that exercises a pressure upon plate A E, and consequently on the joist, so as to render other fastenings unnecessary.
What I claim as new is The combination, with lever G, having pawl H, of plate A, having extension E, and grooved plate F, having lip O, the former adjustable in the latter, as and for the purpose specified.
