This safety device is therefore not only I a great protector, preventing the destruction or spoiling of many objects. but it is also ameans of avoiding the soiling of the contents of a house.
It is well known how'much annoyance is caused by the dropping of ash and particles of burning tobacco, whether-it be when lying in bed, during the taking of meals, in the office, or even when walking. ;It is unnecessary to enumerate the number of articles of clothing, and the number of pieces of furnl ture, carpets, sheets, counterpanes, etc., which have been soiled or burnt by the said particles.

This safety device is essentially composed of a case, manufactured'of a'noninfiammable material, the form of which adapts itself to that of a cigar or cigarette. Preferably it will be manufactured in such a manner that its main body be formed of a -metallic cloth mounted on a frame composed of very fine metal'rods. Its upper part is rounded to adapt itself to the form of the cigarette or cigar. The cigarette or cigar which is smoked inside this case cannot do any damage, nor can it become dangerous in the slightest degree, for'it is simply impossible for burning particles or ash to pass through the openings. When provided with this case it will be possible to smoke with ease on ships, aeroplanes, and even in mines, for not even an ignition of gases can take place. through the cigar or cigarette when it is smoked inside the said (case. 1
