IMPROVEMENT IN CORNERS FOR VEHICLE-BODIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 641,703, dated J ure 22, 1875; application filed April 23, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, STEPHEN ACKER and NELsoN L. ROBINSON, of Batchellerville, in the county of Saratoga and State of New York, have invented a new and valuable Improveent in Metal Oorner for Vehicle or Sleigh Bodies; and we do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked there- Oll.
Figure 1 of the drawing is a representation of a perspective view of my invention, shown as connecting the side pieces of a vehicle or carriagebody. Fig. 2 is a detached view of the metal corner.
This invention has'relation to metal corners or joints for vehicle and sleighbodies or boxes; and consists in a metal corner, having dovetail grooves and V-shape ribs in the grooves, so that when the wooden side is inserted the rib will embed itself therein, and preserve the joint from any shrinkage that might take place.
In the accompanying drawings, A is designed to 'represent my improved corner cast, or otherwise formed, of metal with dovetail grooves a a and V-shape ribs 1) b, running its entire length, and at the lower end a flat plate, 0, having a suitable opening, 01, by which the bottom of the box or body and frame may be bolted together. B B represent the pieces composing the hind corner of a vehicle or sleigh body, the ends of the same being dovetailed, as shown at 0. These ends are inserted at the upper end of the metal corner into the correspondingly formed grooves a a, after which they are driven down to their place,
the Vshape ribs 1) b embedding themselves in the sides of the dovetail projections e c, and preserving the joint from any shrinkage that might take place. A perfect joint is thereby formed, and at a very trifling cost, possessing great durability and strength, and entirely dispensing with the use of screw-fastenin gs.
The corner, if desired, may be of any suitable shape or configuration, and ornamented upon its exterior.
Having now fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The metal corner A, with dovetail grooves a a, and ribs 1) b, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony that we claim the above we have hereunto subscribed our names in the presence of two witnesses.
STEPHEN AOKER.
NELSON L. ROBINSON.
