Description

S. BECK PAINTBRUSH Oct. 18 1927.
Filed Sept. 20. 1926 Patented a. 18, 1927.
UNITED STATES VVPATENT oFFicE.
SIGMUND 31201:, or NUREMBERG, GERMANY.
rAIN'rBRUsH, I
Application filed September 20, 1926, Serial No. 136,543, and. in Germany April 21,1926.
both ends of the brush head by castellated Paint-brushes have been made" in such a manner that into a brush head of wood, provided with bores, single bristle-tufts are inserted and fastened insaid bores by means of pitch, wire or similar fastening means,
the projecting ends of the bristles being disposed closely with respect to each other in order to provide a continuous bristle surface. In another form of construction the bristles are placed between wooden strips which are inserted into recesses of the brush back or head and are glued and nailed to the latter.
The present invention relates to an improjections being adapted to extend be-' tween and over said metal bristle-carrying frames.
In the accompanying drawing, in which one form of embodiment of my improved;
paint-brush is illustrated,
Fig. l is a longitudinal section of the same. v
Fig. 2 is a cross-section through the brush. 1 Fig. 3' is a plan view of the brush head with the metal bristle-carrying frames removed.
Fig. 4: is a front view of the brush. head.
Fig. 5 is a plan view of one of the retaining members.
Figs. 6 and 7 show in side viewand cross-section the manner of securing the bristles in ametal frame. I
As it may be seen from the drawing the bristle rows 0; are secured in the channeled metal frames b by pressing the sides'of the frames in clamping engagement therewith and adding a suitable binding meanasuch as glue, cement. or the like, the metal frames being provided with continuous or interrupted indentationsg forming spurs or like retaining projections to engage and securely hold the bristles. For the reception of the metal frames, whichv are reduced :in depth to form flanges at both ends, the brush back 0 is provided with continuous channels or grooves d, which are closed at back. I r In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
or comb shaped retaining; plates e. The comb-shaped projections of these plates '6 extend between and over the reduced ends of the series of bristle-carrying frames 7), whereby a displacement of the bristle-carrying frames in any direction is rendered impossible. The plates 6 are secured to the brush head by means of a suitable number of pins or rivets. My improved paint-brush thus combines, with a simple manner ofmanufacture, the advantagethat a thorough-' 1y secure fastemng of the bustle rows 4; 1n.
the brush head 0 isensured.
. I claim 1. A paint-brush comprising, in combination, a brush back provide dwith a plurality of parallel grooves in one face, a plurality of metal bristle-carrying frames secured in.
said grooves ofvthe brush back, and retainback and having comb-shaped projections at right angles thereto extending between and over said metal frames and securing the same immovably in the brush back.
2. A paint-brush comprising, in combination, a brush backprovided with a plurality of'parallel grooves in one face, a plurality of metal bristle-carrying frames secured'in said grooves of the brush back and having mg members engaging the ends of the brush flanges at their ends, and retaining plates secured to the ends of the brush back and having comb-shaped projections extending .between and over said metal frames and securing the same immovably'in the brush back. V
3. A paintbrush comprising. in combination, a brush back provided with a plurality of parallel grooves in one face, a plurality of metal bristle-carrying frames secured in said grooves of the brush back, retaining projections pressed inwardly from. the sides of said bristle-carrying frames. and bristles in said bristle-carrying frames and retaining members engaging the ends of the series of bristle-carrying frames and having comb.- shapedv projections extending between and over said bristle-carrying frames and securing the same immovably inthe' brush SIGMUND BECK.
