Be it known that I, V cToR ADAMs, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Heads for Brooms I and Brushes, of which the following is a full, clear, and exactsp'ecification.

- The prime object of my invention broadl y stated'is to provide a simple and durable means particularly adapted for convenient ly and quickly securing, the bunches of bristles in their operative position 'to a broom or brush head, and which when worn of bristles.

- A further object of my inventionis to provide a broom or brush head of such a construction that any desired number of bunches of bristles maybe quickly and conveniently attached thereto, in their operative pos1t1ons, and in as many rows staggered, or otherwise, as may be necessary for the particular use to which they are to be applied.

Another object of my invention is to pro-- vide a means bywhich broom and brush heads and the fastenings' for their bunches of bristles may be'fin their entirety constructed from sheet metal, the several'parts of which brush head maybe rigidly andpermanently locked together in their operative position, withthe fewest possible numwiseby clips, nutsor bolts-for detachable socket formed integral therewith, and in which the" handle may. be securely locked therein against detachment by meansof' a metallic clip.

With these ends view, my invention finds embodiment in certain features of novelty in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts by "which the said objects and certain otherobjects are attained,

It shouldhere be observed that the clip constructionhereinshown and described is an important feature of my invention for securely binding and holding bunches of bristles for brushes, brooms and other articles, and that my invention is therefore not limited to the device herein shown and described for securing such bunches of bristles so clipped in their operative position in and to a broom head.

lVhile I have described my invention as adapted for the use of bristles in brooms and brushes. it should be understood that it includes the use of hair and fibers of any kind adapted to their uses and purposes, and that my invention is not limited to the number of 1 rows of bristles that may be contained in any brush or broom in which my invention is present.

Having described my invention, what I strip, a number of spaced bunches of bristles secured thereto and arranged in a straight row, a separate bmdmg cllp surrounding each bunch and secured to said strip said clips having their ends overlapping and having their adja'cent edges parallel.

8. In a brush the combination of a metal strip, a plurality of bunches of bristles, and a separate binding clip for each of said bunches substantially semi-circular in cross-' section, said clips being interlocked with said strips. p i

4:. Ina brush the combination of a number of parallel strips having slots therethrough arranged in spaced pairs, a num ber of bunches of bristles, binding clips for each bunch separated from eachother, the

legs of which clips project through said slots and are flat against said strips, and

means for connecting and permanently se-' curing said several strips together in their operative position.

5. In a brush, the combination with at number of spaced parallel strips, means for mount ng and locking said strips .intheir operative position, a plurality of bunches of bristles arranged along said strips, a.

separate binding clip for each bunch, the ends of said clips passing through said strips and being bent for securing the clips to said strips with their fiat sides opposing each other in adjacent rows.

In-a brush, the combination of a head, strips extending from end to end of said head and each provided with a series of slots, means for connecting said several strips in operative position, a number of bunches of bristles and mdividua-l binding clips therefor, the legs of which clips project through said slots and are clinched flat against the surfaces of said strips with the end of one leg extending beyond the end of the other leg.

7. In a brush head the combination of bunches to one of said strips,.the legs of which clip taper to points and extend through a pair of said slots, said legs being bent down against the side of said strip with theirv adjacent edges opposing each other in parallel lines. o I
