UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
DONALD P. ORDWAY, OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOB TO AMERICAN STAMP- ING CO., OF BATTLE CREEK, MICHIGAN, A CORPORATION OF MICHIGAN.
COMBINATION HOLDER FOR RAZOR-BLADE WIPERS AND USED RAZOR BLADES.
Application filed ma 15, 1925. Serial m. 30,589.
This invention is a novel combination holder for razor blade wipers and used razor blades. p
Used or discarded safety razor blades are extremely dangerous, as they are usually carelessly discarded and left in places where they are liable to injure anyone cpming n contact with them by cuts or infections, sa 1d blades being particularly dangerous to children, servants, and housewives, and men frequently carelessly toss the used blades 1nt-o toilets, etc., entailing damage and trouble. Also much financial loss is caused by towels being cut and damaged by men wlpmg safety razor blades thereon.
My invention provides both a suitable and safe holder for discarded blades and also for small sanitary paper towels for drying them; which is highly advantageous from a 0 sanitary standpoint.
The principal object of the invention 1s to provide a novel and convenient device for holding paper wipers for razor blades or toilet paper, and a rece tacle for used safety razor blades wherein t ey will be kept out of the way of children or others who m ght be injured thereby. p
In the accompanying drawings I have 11- lustrated some practical embodiments of the invention, and will describe the same with reference thereto, and will summarize 1n the claims the essentials of the invention, and novel features of construction and novel combinations of parts for which protection is desired.
In said drawings:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of one of the combined holders for razor blade wlpers and used blades. Figure 2 is a sectional view on the l1ne 2-2, Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a longitudinal sectional v1ew of a slight modification.
Figure 4 is a view of a the combination holder.
Figure 5 is a section on the hue 5-5,
modification of 4 Figure 6 illustrates still another modification.
. Figure 7 is a top plan view of the holder shown in Figure 6, opened.
Figure 8 is a sectional view on the llne 88, Fig. 6.
Figure 9 is a rear view of Figure 6 with the back plate removed.
FFigure 10 is a section on the line 1010, 1g. 6. As shown in Figures 1 and 2 the holder comprises a casin preferably made of metal,
and approximate y of ogee shape in crosssection. This holder comprises a front wall 1, rear wall 2, and end walls 3. The lower part of the front wall 1 is curved rearwardly to form the bottom of the receptacle, and its upper portion is preferably curved slightly outwardly to enhance the appearance of the holder, and the top is closed by a plate 4.
The casing is divided into large and small compartments by an interior transverse partition 5; the larger compartment is adapted to contain razor blade w1per sheets W which are preferably of paper, and which sheets may be readlly withdrawn from the compartment through an opening 1 in thefront wall 1 near the top of the compartment, as indicated in the drawings. Used razor blades B can be dropped into the smaller compartment through a slot 4 in the top plate 4 and may be removed therefrom when the compartment becomes full. Preferably an opening 3* is formed in the end wall 3 of said compartment, and this opening is 7 closed by a door 6 which is preferabl hinged at its upper end and is provided wit a catch 6 at its lower end, whlch may be of any suitable kind, and is shown as pressed out of the metal of the door and adapted to bind on the lower edge of the opening 3 when the door is closed, and hold the latter securely closed unless it is forced open.
If desired, the lower end of partition 5 might be curved as indicated in Figure 3 so that when the door 6 is opened the blades would drop out of the blade chamber without having to remove the receptacle from the wall or support to which it is secured.
The holder can be secured to a wall or support in any suitable way, one method being by nails or screws S passed through apertures in the back wall 2 to which access can be readily had through the opening 1 when the wipers W are removed. As shown a light leaf spring 8 may be provided to press the wiper sheets forward in the paper compartment.
The holder shown in Figure 45 is practically the same as that shown in Figure 1 but the casing is not so ornamental, the same be ing shown as rectangular. Instead of the v slot 4 in the top a slot 1 is formed in the front plate 1, so that the used blades can be inserted in the blade chamber through said slot. Access is had to the blade chamber through an opening 1 in the plate 1, which is closed by a door 6 similar to the door 6.
The construction shown in Figures 6 to 10 is substantially the same as in Figures 1 and 4, the casing having an opening .1 in its front wall and a slot 4* in its top for the introduction of the blades B into the blade chamber; but the front portion of the casing is hinged to the back 2" thereof, as shown, and can be swung open when it is desired to place the wipers W in the larger compartment or remove the blades from the smaller compartment. In this construction the blade and a door 6 similar to the door 6 is hin ed to the plate 2. If desired the blade cham er may have a curved bottompiece 5", as indicated in Figure 10.
The back plate 2* may be fastened to a wall or other suitable support and the holder proper can be closed against the same and secured by any suitable fastening, as 7. When the casin is opened as indicated in v Figure 7 the bla e wipers W can be inserted in the wiper compartment through the open back thereof.
It will be seen that each construction provides a novel useful holder for the blade wipers and for. the used blades, and that the latter when placed in the used blade holder are out of the way of children and others; also when the blade receptacle becomes filled it can be readily emptied and the blades finally disposed of. The device is very simple in any form, and various changes may be made therein within the scope of the claims without involving invention. The novelty and utility of the holder will be apparent to any user of safety razor blades, and to housekeepers, and to hotel keepers and the like, who know the annoyance and danger of such blades being carelessly thrown into waste baskets or carelessly left lying around.
I claim:
1. A holder for blade wipers and used razor blades comprising a casing having a compartment for wipers, and a compartment for used razor blades, the blade compartment having 'a discharge opening; a closure for said opening and the bottom of said compartment inclining towards said opening.
2. 6. A holder for wipers and used blades, comprising a large compartment having an opening for the removal of the paper; and a smal closed compartment for used razor blades having a slot for introducing blades into such compartment, an opening for discharging blades from said compartment and means for closing said opening, and means for discharging the blades from the compartment through the opening.
'7. A holder for wipers and used blades, comprising a large compartment having an opening for the removal of the paper; and a small closed compartment for used razor blades having a slot for introducing blades into such compartment, and an opening for discharging blades from said compartment, said blade compartment having an inclined bottom todirect blades out of the opening and means for closing said opening.
8. A holder comprising a closed casing having a large compartment for the reception of paper; a slot in the wall of such ment when the door is opened.
9. A holder comprising a closed casing having a large compartment for the reception of paper, a slot in the wall of said compartment for the removal of the sheets; a smaller compartment for used razor blades, a slot in the wall of the smaller compartment for introducing blades thereinto, a door in the side of said razor blade compartment for the removal of accumulated blades; said razor blade compartment having an inclined bottom to direct blades out of the compartment when the door is opened; and a spring in the paper compartment for pressing the paper toward the slot therein.
10. A holder for paper and used razor blades, comprising a casing containing a. compartment for paper, and a smaller compartment for used razor blades beside the paper compartment, and having an opening for withdrawal of the paper from the paper compartment, and a slot for introducing blades into the used blade compartment.
11. A holder for paper wipers and used blades, comprising a casing having a paper compartment and an opening for the removal of the paper; and a smaller closed compartment for used razor blades besid the paper compartment and a slot for introducing blades into such compartment; and an opening in the used blade compartment for removing used blades therefrom.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I afiix my signature.
