UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM M. GATERSON, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No.
164,265, dated June 8, 1875; application filed April 15, 1575.
To all whom itmay concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM M. CATER- SON, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a Vessel for Containing Poison, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to so construct a bottle or jar for containing poisons that the dangerous character of the contents will always be impressed on the minds of those who have to handle such vessels. This object I attain in the manner which I will now proceed to describe, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, in which Figure 1 is a vertical section of a bottle for containing poisons, and Fig. 2 a front view of the same.
On the body of the bottle, which may be of clay, glass, or other plastic or vitreous material, is formed, in relief, the representation of the front a of a skull, as shown in the drawin g, the prominence of the figure being always such that when the bottle is placed on a shelf in a drug or prescription store or laboratory,
1 or in a factory where poisons are applied to the useful arts, or in the family medicine chest or cupboard, it will always act as a caution, for it will be the first thing noticed by day or artificial light, and will be at once detected by the touch in the dark.
Independently of the advantage of my iinproved bottle as a caution to those who have to use poisons, the prominent figure afl'ords facilities for handling bottles and jars of the larger class.
I claim as my invention- As a new manufacture, a vessel of glass or other plastic or vitreous material, on which is represented the front of a skull, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have signed my two subscribing witnesses.
