Sept 6 1927' T. JOHNSON MEMORANDA HOLDER FOR HATS; Filed July ze. 192e 'ffm/7706 dmya, JWM
I' l atm-'nii y VPatente-cl Sept. 6, 1927.
THOMAS'- .T oHNsoN, or L MEMORANDA H PATENT oEFicE.
OS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA.
OLDER Een HATS.
Application filed July 26, 1926. Serial No. 125,(166.
This invention Vrelatesto a memorandaholder adapted for use within the crownof a hat or cap to be accessible for instantaneous use on emergencies It is very common yfor people to insert in theV crown of their headgear notes or other memoranda containing data for future use. In removing thehat. however the papersare liable to be lost or blown away creating a tremendous amount of trouble.
My invention is designed to provide a holder in which the memoranda may be securely stored and readily abstracted when required the device serving this function is an elastic tempered steel wire or ribbon of sutlicient length to be bent into an arc and supported in proper alinement on the inside crown of a hat or cap. At its middle por` tion is mounted a clip with jaws adapted to be brought snugly together to clamp one or more notes of oranda.
The invention therefore essentially comprises a holder `to retain memoranda and from which they may be readily removed, adapted for ready insertion within the crown of a hat and stably supported therein. It
comprises other more specific features the` nature of which will 'be hereinafter more fully set forth in the present specification and the Scope of which will be definitely indicated in the accompanying claims.
In the drawing` illustrating an embodiment of my invention as applied to a cap type of headgear. Y v
Figure l shows in elevation the application of my improved holder'to the inside of the crown of a cap, A c z Figure 2 shows the elastic sidesof the device sprung together ready for insertion inV the crown of a hat,
Cil
Figure 3 shows in sect-ion the clip I prefer to employ, and
Figure 4 is a section on the plane L -4L of Figure 2 looking in the direction of the arrows showing an effective vgripping clamp for my holder.
Referring now in detail to the drawing 1 1a represent two lengths of tempered steel wire curled at their free ends to ring form and lying in a plane axially of the wireV as indicated at 2-2a. Thewires are twisted together as shown at 3 by anumber of turns to provide a stiff joint and soldered in the fold, as at 5, of a bent metallic strip of thin sheet metal the jaws of which are brought papers containing the memf into parallelism as at 6. The outer ends of the jaws are bent or curved at an angle, as 'indicated at 7, to afford a holder to admit of ready insertion of paper memoranda, and near the curved edge Yis a struck up portion of the metal strip at several transverse points as Vindicated at 8, to provide symmetrically related dents which may indent and grip the memoranda. At an the holder is a fixed pin 9 securely attached to one of the jaws as by soldering, its screwthreaded end extending through an opening in one free jaw. A wing nut l0 engages the threaded portion o short helical spring 1l and afford an elastic adjustment for the jaws to admit different numbers of folded p with advantage be provided with enameled or embossed information asto the maker of the hats containing the device. f
It will thus be seen that my device is an exceedingly simple form of memorandahollder, is readily applied and is adapted to maintain its position in stable parallelism with the crown of the hat in which it is inserted pacity for temporary memoranda for the wearer of the cap.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire tosecure by Letters Patent is.: Y
1. A memoranda holder for a hat or cap comprising a straight thin elastic wire oifset at its ends to hold it in alinement when ap-V plied inthe crown of a hat and adapted when flexed to nest snugly within said crown, and a memoranda clamp with indente fixed midway the ends of the wire to securely retain temporary memoranda.
v2. A spring holder for memoranda adapted for insertion in a hat or cap comprising an elastic wire spring conforming to its inside crown, said wire being comp lengths twisted together to form a unit and an adjustable clamp lined between its ends to secure Vthe memoranda for'emergency use.
3. A memoranda holder for a hat comprising a spring to nest elastically inside the crown of the'hat, and a clamp for holding a plurality of memoranda papers connected with the spring disposed in a horizontal plane. j i
In testimony whereof I atliX my signature.
` THoMAs JOHNSON.
