IMPROVEMENT IN PEG-CUTTERS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent N0. 164,139, dated June 8, 1875; application filed April 24, 1875.
Toall whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MATTHEW BUHLER, of 'Lamoille, in the county of Bureau and 1 State of Illinois, have invented a new and temper than projecting pegs yet such annoyances are suffered from day to day simply because there is at hand no effectual method of removing them. A
My object in the present invention is to provide a small, cheap, and simple tool, by which the pegs can be removed by the sufferer at once with very little trouble; and it consists in an adjustable cutter and rasp, by which the pegs may be removed from any part of the bottom of the boot or shoe with perfect ease, the same being constructed and arranged as herein after described.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure l is a perspective view of the tool, showing the shank and handle. Fig. 2 is a view of the cutters and rasp detached from the shank. Fig. 3 is a section of Fig. 2, taken on the line at 00.

A is the face of the tool, to which is rigidly attached the stem B. G is the shank, which has two mortises forthe stem B, which unite at the end of the shank, and branch obliquely therefrom through opposite sides of the shank, as seen at D and E in Fig. 3. By turning over the shank, the position of the cutter and rasp is changed to enable the operator to cut the pegs from any part of the bottom. F are the cutters arranged at both ends of the tool. Gr represents the rasp, which follows the forward cutter. H is an aperture at the heel of the tool, having a sharp edge for smoothing off the pegs in the heel of the boot or shoe. With this tool on hand, there need be no excuse for pain in the feet, the Wearing out of stockings, or for scolding about the shoemaker, as a full remedy is at the command of the wearer.
Having thus described myinvention,I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent 1. The peg-cutter A, having its lower sur- 1a 3e wrought into cutting and rasping edges, and provided with end cutters A and aperture H, all substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The shank 0, having mortises D E cut in from opposite sides, and united at the end of the shank to receive the stem B, as and for the purposes described.
