LAST.
-r Application filed April 22, 1925. Serial No. 24,992.
My invention relates to lasts and in particular to a snap back last.
It is the'fobjectr of my invention to pro-V vide alastin which the parts may be simply and effectively maintainedin predetermined relationship with one another `and in which the lastparts will beyieldingly maintained in expanded position and constantly parts It is the lObject of my invention to provide a very cheap and simple, but sturdyY form Referring to the drawings: v l,Figure 1 is a side elevation ot thelast partiallyv in( section cut away to show the arrangement of the snap back spring and yFigure 2 isa section on the line 2-2 ot Figure 1 in the1 direction of the arrows.
Referring to the drawingsin detail, 1 is the toe part of thev last having a cut away,v portion?J for accommodatingthe spring and links.` This toe part on its rear tace is provided with a transverse semi-circular groove j 3 rin which rits a transverse partially cir.- cular projecting shoulder 4L ofthe heel part 5.v These parts are` limited in their expanded position by their respective shoulders 6 and 7 located below the/socket joint. 'The space above the socket joint between Jthe last' parts is substantially il-shaped when in expanded positiongdue to the fact that the faces adjacent to one another ot the last parts designated 8 and 9 are disposed at angle to one another normally to permit of the collapsing of thelast parts'.
'The heel part 5 is provided with a cut away portion l() for receiving the spring which snaps the last halves back in expanded f position'.
Transversely located in the last parts and intersecting the cut away portions 2 and 10 are anchorvpins 11 and 12. These anchor pins have hooked over them an archedV shaped spring 13 with hooks 111 at either end thereof. A hinge pin 15 is transversely located in the partially'circular transverse shoulder t' of the heel part. This hinge in carries apair ot spaced toe links 16 the other ends of which are mounted on the anchor pin 11 on either side of the spring I' 13 serving to keep the spring in position.
v It will beobserved kthat the center of the tween the centers of the anchor pins 11 and 12 so that'the spring lpconstantly Vtends to Vsnap the parts back into expanded position.
'It willbe understood that I desire to com-` prehend withinmy invention such modifications as mayV be necessary'to adapt it to varying conditions of use. Y
Having fully described vmy invention,
what I claimas new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :f
V1. In a snap Vback last, a toepart and al heel part, a projection on one part fitting into a ,sockety in the other part to permit the parts to rock on-one another, a hingeY pin located in said projection, the center of the pin being the center of the movement of the parts, a link mounted on said hinge pin connecting the part in which the pin is located with the other part, an anchor pin inthe other part for supportingthe link,
and a bow spring mounted on said 'anchor in at one end and upon a second anchor Vpinin the other last part at the other'end,
and a second anchor pin, the centers of said anchor' pins being so arranged that a line drawn therebetween ynever passes over the center of the hinge pin.V
2. In a snap back last, a toe .part anda heel part, saidparts being `adaptedto rock upon one another, a hinge pin located'in one of said parts with its center on the center of' vmovement Ot the parts, a pair of links mounted thereon'connectmg onepart to the' other, an anchor pin for supporting said links in the other part?, an arched shaped l spring adapted to clear the hinge pin hooked to the anchor pin and located between the links, and a second anchor pin in the other last part adapted to support the other end of thespring, the centers of said anchor pins being so arranged that a lin-e drawn therebetween never passes over Vthe centerof the hinge pin.
8. In a snap back last, lastparts adapted Y to rock one on the other, a two part jointed link connecting said parts, a yielding connecting member arranged so that its points of attachment through the last parts will notpass by the center of movement of the last parts whereby a linedrawn between the centers of attachment will always be below o said center of movement.
In testimony whereof, lI aliiX myslgnature.
CLAUSING.
