Description
THOMAS WHITE, OF wAYNErowN, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN EXTENSION-TABLES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No 164,064, dated June 1, 1875; application filed March 13, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, THOMAS WHITE, of WVaynetown, in the county of Montgomery and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Extension-Tables; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a longitudinal vertical section of my table. Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view of the same; and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal vertical sectional view of my table extended. Fig. 4 is a plan view of the same.
This invention has relation to extension-tables having a central supporting-frame; and
it consists in providing the central supportingframe with l-shaped longitudinal beams, and the end leaves with L-shaped slide-bars to engage with said I-shaped beams, said parts bein g so arranged in relation to the notched rails of the center frame, and to each other, that the end leaves may be adjustedtoward each other over the uncovered central frame, or closed together, as hereinafter fully shown and described.
In the annexed drawings, A designates a substantial frame, consisting of four legs, A, united by four rails, a a a a. B B designate two semicircular tops, which are mounted on legs 0 0, located in such relation to the straight edges of the tops that the latter can be brought together over the frame A, and form a circular table having six legs. Between the two end rails a a of frame A, and
rigidly secured to these rails, are two bars, D D, which are parallel to each other, and which have longitudinalgrooves z' in their sides. To the under side of the semicircular top B two bars, E E, are rigidly secured, which, in cross section, are of an L shape, and to the bottom of the other top, B, two bars, E E, are rigidly secured, which are of the same shape as the bars E E. The bars of the top B are onthe outside of the bars D D, and the bars of the top B are on the inside of the bars D 'D, the tongues of all the sliding bars being fitted into the grooves in the stationary bars. The bars which are secured to the tops B B are grooved through the end rails a a, secured together by cross-pieces c c, and provided with stops d.
I am aware that a central legsnpported table has been provided with sliding end extensions; hence I do not broadly claim such invention.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In an extension-table, the uncovered legsupported central frame A, having the rigid shaped bars D D, connecting the end rails a a, and the movable leg-supported leaves B B, provided with L-shaped slides E E, respectively engaging with the inside and outside grooves of the bars D D, substantially as specified.
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
THOMAS WHITE. Witnesses:
NATHAN G. MILLER, W. R. WORK.
