Description

1927' M. DOVlDAlTlS FINGER ATTACHMENT Filed Dec. 28. 1926 IN VII 2177012 Patented Aug. 30, 1927.
MATIB IEW DOVIDAITIS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FINGER ATTACHMENT.
Application filed December 28, 1926. Serial No. 157,563.
My invention relates to new and useful improvements in a finger attachment, and has for its primary object to provide an exceedingly simple and effective device of this character to be worn upon the users finger to assist said user in picking up washed dishes from a dish washing machine.
Another object of the invention is to rovide a device of this character in the orm of a metal sleeve carrying a pick of unique construction, whereby it may be readily inserted between two dishes of a stack, or beneath the lowermost dish, to give an initial lift to the stack of dishes, and allow the ready insertion of a persons fingers beneath the lifted dishes, so that a hold may be obtained thereon.
A further object of my invention is to provide a finger attachment in the form of a metal sleeve to be worn upon the third finger of the users hand, said sleeve ,having a pick attached-thereto in a novel manner.
A still further object of my invention is to provide, as an article of manufacture, a finger attachment comprising a sleeve having a beveled end and provided with a slot in the longer side thereof and a pick including a prong and a shank, the latter hav ng portions in two different planes and passlng through the slot in the sleeve, so that one portion of said shank is on the inslde of the sleeve, and the other portion on the outside thereof.
With these and other ends in view, this invention consists in the details of construction and combination of elements hereinafter set forth and then specifically designated by the claims.
In order that those skilled in the art to which this invention appertains, may understand how to make and use the same, I will describe its construction in detail, referring by numerals to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this application, in which:
Fig. 1, is a side elevation of the right hand of a person having a finger attachment embodying my invention applied to the third finger.
Fi 2, is a side elevation of the finger attac ment per se, with a portion broken away and shown in section to illustrate details of construction.
Fig. 3 is an end view thereof. a
In carrying out my invention as herein embodied, 4 represents my improved finger attachment comprising metal sleeve 5, open at bothends and having one of said ends beveled, as at 6. In the longer side of this sleeve, preferably adjacent the outer end is formed a slot 7, through which the shank 8 of pick 9 is projected; said pick in addition to the shank including a pron 10. The shank has two parts 11 and 12 in different parallel planes, produced by bending the shank so that one part isout of alignment with the other part. The part 12 lies within the sleeve 5 and contacts with the inner surface thereof, while the part 11 lies on the outside of the sleeve and contacts with its outer face. The pick is held in place by suitable fastening means 13, such as a rivet, passing through the part 12 of its shank and through a wall of the sleeve.
- In actual practice, the device is placed upon the users finger, preferably the third one, and is always ready for use interfering with the users duties. When it is desirable to lift one or more dishes from the object on which they are resting, such as the platen of a dish washing machine, it is only necessary to project the prong of the pick beneath a dish, after which a slight twist of the hand will lift the dish to ermit insertion of the fingers therebeneat As soon as this has been done, the dish or dishes may be ripped by one or both hands, and conveye to the desired point of disposal. This device is particularly adapted for use by selectormen in removin washed dishes from a dish washing mac ine, where the dishes are generally in an inverted position.
Of course I do not wish to be limited to the exact detailsof construction as herein shown as these may be varied within the limits of the appended claims without -de-' parting from the spirit of my invention.
Havmg thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and useful is: a
1. A finger attachment comprising a metal sleeve having a beveled outer end and without adapted to be placed upon a users finger,
on the outside, and another portion on the inside of said sleeve, and means to secure the pick to the sleeve.
3. As an article of manufacture, a finger attachment including a sleeve open at both ends and having its Outer end beveled and further provided with a slot in the longer side adjacent the outer end, a pick consisting of a s planes and provided with a prong substantially at right angles thereto, a porhaving two parts in different tion of said shank being projected through the slot so that the inner end lies against the inner surface of the sleeve, and the outer end a ainst the outer surface of the sleeve 15 with tie prong projecting outwardly, and a rivet passing through a wall of the sleeve and through the inner end of the pick shank to secure said pick in place.
In testimony whereof he aflixed his signa- 20 ture.
MATHEW DOVIDAITIS.
