Application filed April 19, 1926. Serial No. 103,120.
This invention relates to gates adapted to open and close by the Weight of a vehicle upon the inclines leading to and from the i-l-Ln object 01" the invention is to relatively associate weight ears with the, inclines to automatically close the gates after a vehicle ha; passed over the inclines.
ii uh the above and other objects in View, the invention further includes the following); novel features and detr is of construction, to be hereinafter more Tully describo'l illus trated in the company drawings and pointed out in the appended claim.
in the drawings Fiaure l is an elevation of the when closed Fiiyure 2 is a similar view of the same when opened;
v w 3 is a sectional view taken on the Figure l; and L is a transverse section taken the opcratingarm for the gates.
erring to the drawing;- in detail, Wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character 10 indicates an oper arm or beam titted tween the corrc )onding inner sides of e posts 11 and bracket member 12 to in proper increment of the beam 10 there- 'i. A cross beam 13 has its opposite ends secur l to the ll llprip 'hts l l posts k are positioned at spaced int lrvals along the length and upon the opposite sides Of the cross ham 13 the purpose of which will be res-lily apparent.
' q 1 mounted upon the inner sic es posts ll are lazy tong grates l5 t The upper c 1 rcated porwithin which areeccentrically mounted i d extending bars 18 having Weights 19 positioned upon the innermo end? thereof in a manner as clearly illus ed in ire l of the. drawings. Spacer; inclines QOhar their corresponding meeting side edges hingedly associated upon the upper side of the beam 10. r
The undersides of such inclines adjacent the outer edges thereof provide roller memhersQl thereon operable Within race-Ways not shown, provided inclined abutments 92 to protect such edges of the inclines and to insure the proper operation thereo't.
In the use and operation of the present invention it is clearly apparent and manif that a vehicle approaching the gate n either of the inclines 20 will depress 1e beam 10 in the position as illustrated in ire 2 of the drawings which action ima do im'ard pull upon the shatts to reel: the levers 1G and simultaneously fold the lazy tong gates 15 upon themselves behind the uprights 14.
The bars 18 during such operation are raised slightly above the beam 13 and subsequently to the passing of the vehicle through the gate the Weights 19 carried thereon, will automatically raise the shafts 17 and beam 10 and simultaneously operate the rock levers 16 to close and move he 15 to their normal inactiv positions as illustrated in Figure 1 oi the drawings. he invention is susceptible of various chan in its to m, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is here in reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended. claii Having thus described my invention What I claim is:
A gate structure comprising pivotally mounted lazy tong; gates, post 7 reel; levers mounted upon the pea and connected With the lazy tong gates, an operating beam extending longitudinally of the gates, inclines leading to and hingedly mounted upon the operating beam, s, connecting the free ends of the beam and rock shafts, and weight bars eccentrically mounted upon the upper'ends of the posts and connected with the shafts to facilitate an automatic closing mechanism for the gates subsequent to passing of the vehicle therethrough.
In testimony whereof I iny signature,
