Description
H. OLSO N.
Plow.
Patented June1, 1875.
WITNESSES I IN V'EJV' TOR Attorney THE GRAPHIC CO. PHOTO -L1TN. 39 8; 4-1 PARK PLACE, N.Y.
HOLOOM OLSON, on MOUNT PLEASANT, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOWS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 164,025, dated June 1, 1875; application filed April 1, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HoLooM OLsoN, 0 Mount Pleasant, in the county of Henry and in the State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Flows; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a plow, as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, referring to the annexed drawing, in which Figure 1 is a side elevationof my plow. Fig. 2 is a bottom view, and Fig. 3 a rear elevation, of the same. Fig. 4 is a detached view of the circular revolving colter.
A represents the plow-beam, made in any suitable form. B is the curved plow-standard or plow-foot, provided at its upper end with a forwardly-projecting arm, 0, through the front end of which passes a vertical bolt, a, up through the plow-beam A and fastened with a nut, b, on top th ereof. The bolt to also passes through the front end of a brace, D, the rear end of which is forked, and straddles the plow-standard B a suitable distance below the arm 0, and is riveted or otherwise permanently fastened thereto. E represents the land-side bar, to which is fastened a bar, Gr, said bar extending inward and forward, and having a curved arm, H, attached to it at its front end. At the junction of the bar G and arm H is also attached a bar or plate, I, to support the lower edge of the mold-board. J represents the moldboard, made of sheet metal, and provided with a flange, d, which is inserted between the plow-standard B and land-side bar E, and clamped by means of bolts 0 e, securing the-land-side bar to the standard. The mold-board J' is formed with the plow point or share all in one piece, and no bolts passing through the faces thereof. The mold-board is adjusted, as regards its curvature, to suit the kind of soil it passes through, by means of a set-screw, f, which is passed through the arm H and bears against the under side of the mold-board.
When the plow is to be used as a breakingplow a hollow point, K, is slipped over the plowshare, said hollow point being provided with a cutter, L. In the beam A is inserted a shank, M, in front of the plow, the lower end of said shank being split and separated for the reception of the revolving colter. The colter is formed of two disks, 0 0, provided on their outer sides with central projecting hubs, 11 t, which are inserted in the ends of the shank-prongs, as shown in Fig. 4. Between the disks 0 O is placed an annular steel plate orring, P, which is clamped between them by a bolt, h, passing through the hubs i c.
Having thus fully described my invention,
what I claim as new, Letters Patent, is
1. A mold-board and point or share made in one piece and provided with a flange, d, as shown, to be clamped between the plow-standard B and land-side bar E, all combined substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
2. The frame of a plow, consisting of the standard B, bar G, arm H, supporting-plate I, and land-side bar E, all substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth.
3. The combination of the mold-board J, frame B G H, and set-screw f, for regulating the curve of the mold-board, substantially as herein set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day of February, 1875.
and desire to secure by H. OLSON.
