Application filed December 21', 1923. Serial No." 681,930.
This invention relates, generally, to improvements in bag frames; and, the present invention has reference, more particularly, to a novel andsimply-constructed bagframe for use more particularly withladies hand bags, pocketbooks, and the like; p v The present invention, therefore, has for its principal objects to provide a simply constructed bag-frame, comprising two sets ofbag-trames, the frame-sections ofwhich are provided with a novel means of pivotal connection between them, whereby a strong and rigid pivotal connection of the two bagframes and their respective frame-sections 1 is obtained.
Other objects of the present invention not at this time more particularly enumerated, will be fully evident from the followingdetailed description of the same, 1
With the several objects of: the present invention in view, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel bag frame hereinafter more fully set 'forth; and, the said invention consists, furthermore, in the novel arrangements and combinations of the various devices and parts, as well as in the ,ployed 1n all-of the said above described details of the construction of the said parts, all of which will be more fully described in the following specification, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claims, which are appended to and which'form an essential part'of the said specification. 1 p
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation ofa bag- 7 frame, showing one embodiment ofthe principles of the present invention; and'Fl gure 2 is a top-edge-view of the same, theframesections of the bag-frame being represented in their closed relation. p
Figure 3 is a side-edge view, showing on an enlarged scale, one of the hinged portions'ot the bag-frame, and Figure 4 is a verticalsectional representation of the'same,
4 said section being represented as being taken on line 4- 4 in said Figure 3, looking in the direction of the arrow in said figure.
Figure 5 is a collective perspective representation of the hinge-portions of the framesections, and the various parts employed in connection with the hinge-connections of the bag-frame. l I
the principles'of the present invention, com- Figure 6 is an inner face view of the hinge-portions of the inner ,frame of the bag-frame, the parts shown being represented in'their relative positions when about to be secured in'their assembled-relations; and Figures 7 and 8 are similar views of said portions, the parts'being'shown in their detached relationj V Figure 9 is an inner face view of the hinge-portions of the outer frame of the bag-frame, the partsshown being represented in their relative positions when about to be secured 'inftheir assembled relations; and Figures 10 and 11 are similar views of said portions, the parts being shown in their det'achedrelation. j Figure 12 is, a front elevation of a slight- 1y modified construction of bag-framemade according to and embodying the principles of the present invention; Figure 13 is a side edge view, showing one of the hinged portions of the said bag-frame;land Figure 14 is a transverse vertical sectional representation of the same, said section being takenon line'let-l in said Figure 13.
' Similar characters of reference are em vlews, to indicate corresponding parts. 7
Referring now to the several figures of the drawings, the reference-character 1 in Figures 1 and 2, indicates'a complete bagframe, made according to and embodying prising an'outer bag-frame 2 and an inner bag-frame 3, pivotally connected at their respective end-portions by means of hingeconnections 4, 4, in the manner and for the purposes to bepresently more fully described. 1
Referring now more particularly to Figures; 3 to 11 inclusive, it will be seen, that the'outer bag-frameQ comprises a pair of frame- sections 5 and 6 of the usual U-shaped cross-section, the respective leg-members of which are provided at their free ends with slots, as 7 and 8, and with outwardly curled elements, as 9 and 10, arranged in airs, as shown and extending in opposite 'rections, thus providing pintle-receiving eyes, for'the receptiontherein of pintles 11 and 12, substantiallyas;shownin Figures 1, 3 and 4; of the drawings. Disposed within the slots 7 and 8 of the respective frame-members is a connecting plate 13, said plate provided with holes or perforations 1 1 and 15. These holes or perforations are adapted to be arranged in alinement with the respective pintle-receiving eyes 9 and 10, for the reception therein of the pintles 11 and 12, and to thereby produce the connected maintenance of the assembled parts by means ofthe heads 16 and the riveted-over ends 17 of said pintles. At their upper edge-portions, the said frame- sections 5 and 6 areprovided with any suitably formed locking or retaining means, as 18, for maintaining the closed relation of the said frame-sections, but of such construction so that the said frame-sections can be readily brought into their opened or separated relation. 7 V
The innerbag-f-rame 3-also comprises a pair of frame- sections 19 and 20 of the usual U-shaped cross-section, the respective legmembers of which are provided with cars '21 and 22, respectively formed with perforations 23 and 24. In assembling these members, the cars 21 and 22 are placed upon each other, with the perforation 23 registering with the perforation 2 1, as indicated in Figure 6 of the drawings. The previously mentioncd connecting plate 13 is also provided with another hole or perforation 25 for the reception of a connector-stem or rod 26, the said stem or rod 26 having its end-portion 27 preferably rigidly secured in the perforation 25 against turning, by means of a rivethead 28. Upon thecother end-portion 29 of the said connector-stemor rod 26 are oscillatorily mounted the registering perforated ears 21 and 22 of the inner frame-sections,
19 and 20. To prevent lateral movement of the inner bag-frame thus oscillatorily mounted upon the connector stems or rods 26, andato maintain the proper relation of the inner bag-frame 3 with the outer bag frame 2, spacing devices in the formof the tubes 30 are mounted upon the said stems or rods 26, as indicated in Figures 1 and 4-; of the drawings, washer-s, as 31 and 32 being also mounted upon said stems or rods 26,
upon opposite sides of the registering pivotears or lugs 21 and 22, andthe end-portion of the rod or stem which extends beyond the washer 32'being riveted-over, so as to provide a retaining head 33.
At their upper edge-portions, the 'said frame-sections19 and 20 are also providedwith any suitably form-edi locking or retain-- ing means. asl3 l, for maintaining, the closed relation of the said frame-sections, but of such construction so that the said frame-sections can bereadily brought into their openedv or separated relation. y I
Referring now. .to Figures 12, 13 and, 14 of ,thedrawi-ngs, it will be'seemithat-the outer bag-frame eomprises'a pair of-frarne-sections 35 and {36; of theusual lU shaped cress see- 738, for .the reception vof suitable pivot-pins or eyelets 41, and whereby the said connecting plate 39 is pivotally or oscillatorily connected with the respective ears orperforations'37 and 38, and hence with the respec= tive frame- sections 35 and 36. Th said connecting plate 39 is alsoprovided with another hole or perforation 42, see Figure 1 1, in which is arranged and secured by means of a-rlveted-over portion or head 15 the re duced shank-portion 44 of a connector rod or stcm' i3 provided at its opposite end-portion with another reducedshank-portion 16 and a riveted-over portion or head: 47.
The inner bag-frame in this construction also comprises a pair of frame- sections 48 and 49 of the usual U-shaped crosssection, the respective leg-members of which are provided with ears or'lugs 50 and 51 respectively formed with perforations 52 and 53. As shown the herein-above mentioned .reduced shank-portion 46 of the connector rod or stem 43is arranged in the alined perforations 52 and'53 of the said ears or lugs 50 and 51, in a manner thatv'the frame-sections48 and 49' are capable of a pivotal or oscillatory motion upon said'reduced shank T 1 portion 16, the riveted-over portion or head 4:7 of course maintaining these parts in their assembled andoperative relation, as will be evident.
At their upper edge-portions the outer and-inner bag-frames are respectively pro vided with suitable locking or retaining I11B2111S,2lS'54i and 55, or the like.
Of courseI-am aware that some changes may be made in the general arrangements and: combinations of the several devices and parts, aswell as in the vdetails of the construction of the said parts, without depart ing from the scope of the present invention as set forth in the foregoing specification,
and as defined in the clauses of the claims, which are appended thereto.
