Serial felo. 74833:)
fhe present invention relates to shuttle hox tension controlling mechanism for Weft replenishing: looms of the bobbin changing type.
i In looms of this type the positioning of the shuttle in the shuttle box under the Weft replenishing: mechanism is of importance in order to secure the etiicient and certain operation of the Weft replenishing mechaltl nism. I he shuttleis not required to have a precise position in register With the Weft replenishing: mechanism as the inclined guide of the shuttle permits its being moved hr the hohhin or the movement of the hole- 15 hin hy it within the limits of the length of the guide. In order to facilitate such movements ofthe shuttle in order to cause it to adjust its position to the position of the hohhin presented to it by the trensferrer,
29 it is proposed according to the present inrention to relieve the pressure on the hinders on the shuttle so as therehy to facilitate its movement under the influence of the pressure of the hohhin hntt either lengthwise of the lay or transversely thereto.
The ohiect of the invention, therefore, is to produce a'shnttle hox tension controlling mechanism for looms or" the hohhin changing type having" provision "for relieving the shuttle tension during replenishment. To this end the invention oonsists in the construction hereinafter described and particw lat-l7; defined in the claim.

the invention descrihed coon-e" n with the shuttle hos tension controll g3 mechanism illustratedend descrihed in the application of Jonis Northrop filed August 12, 1924., i erial :l'o. 731,543.
The i us'trated enihodiment of the invention is deserihed as i ollowsr The law 5 is supporte n sword 6 provided With the the dagger shalt 8 is supported on the lay in the usual manner and carries binder fingers 9 and the dogger 10. Attached to the dagger shaft is the fork 11, onearrn 12 of which has n hole in its end Which receives the lateral pin 13 of the tension rod 14. The lower end of the tension rod passes through whole in the collar 15 pivotelly mounted at 18 in a bracket 17v bolted to the frame 7B3 of the loom. A spring 19 on the lower end of the rod below the collar talres against such P collar at its upper end and against the adjusting not 20 at its lower end, heing secured in adjusted position by the lock nut 21. The
The arni 12 also carries a spring stop 25 which is supported in an ear 26 projected laterally from the arm 12. A spring 27 emhraces the shank of the stop taking" against the upper surface of the ear at its lower end and against the head of the stop 25' at its upper end. The stop 25 is orevided on the under side of the ear 2o ivith an adjusting not which is secured in adiusted position hy the locking not 29, This stop 25 is a dagger stop and serves to pre- "vent overthrow oi the hinders hy "the enterv1 d engage 3! ed jnstahly secured h holt 38 to creel:- et 329 seen; cite a rearward proiection 3-0 from a po on oi the frame of looro.
'lhe'opcretion of the mechanism thus tar described, which is the construe ion illustrated and described in said lication is as s: mtarting with the in on the hack assuming shuttle he to the fork 11 and thereby turns the dagger contain a shuttle which presses upon the binder 24 and thereby holds the binder finger 9 in rearward position, the dagger 10 will be held in raised position thereby during the forward movement of the lay. During such movement the by-pass pawl 32, as it advances, comes into engagement with the surface of the cam 37. The pawl is turned to the right, as viewed in Fig. 1, stretching the spring 33, and the roll 36 rides up over.
the cam without any effect upon the position of the dagger, the by-pass pawl yielding as it passes over the cam; After the by-pass pawl passes beyond the cam, it snaps back to normal position under the influence of its spring, so that at the end of the forward movement of the lay the by-pass pawl occupies its normal. position with respect to the fork upon which it is carried, as shown in full lin s in Fig. 1. During this forward movement of the lay, the tension rod M pulls downwardly upon the fork l2 and thereby tends to turnv the dagger down into position to engage the frog. But inasmuch as the assumption is that a shuttle occupies the box at this time, no turning movement is imparted to the dagger. During the backward movement of pawl 32 rides up over the cam 37 and by reason of the engagement of the projection 34 therefrom, which rests upon the upper surface of the arm 30 of the fork 11, it lifts shaft and relieves the binder of the pressure of the dagger fingers durin the time the roll on the by-pass pawl is in engagement with the cam. This release of the pressure on the hinders due to the dagger fingers occurs at a time when. the shuttle is bein rod fork ll. As the lay retreats, the pres the lay the bypass masses sure exerted by the tension rod 14 on the dagger fingers increases, so that the shuttle tension, that is to say, the pressure exerted by the binders on the shuttle as it entersthe box, increases from the time the tension is first applied all of the way back to back its lower position, and while in this positionit does not engage the roller 41 of the fork 11.- But when the change shaft isturned to lift the transfer latch so as to cause replenishment, the holder finger is'raised and upon the next forward beat of the lay the-cam roll 41 engages the surface of the holder finger 42 and is thereby liftedso as to turn the dagger shaft 8 and withdraw the fingers 9 from contact with the binder 24-. The binders preferably have a light spring for holding them with a small pressure against the shuttle so as to prevent accidental movement thereof. and when transfer is called for, therefore, the binders are released from the heavy pressure applied through the dagger shaft so that the shuttle is free to be moved by the entering bobbin.
The present invention has beenshown in connection with the construction illustrated in the said application, but it is to be understood that it may be embodied in other forms within the scope of the claim. I
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is: I
A weft replenishing loom of the bobbin changing type having, in combination, weft replenishing mechanism including a change shaft, a lay having shuttle boxes provided with binders, a dagger rod on the lay, binder lingers on the dagger rod, a forwardly extended lever on the dagger rod, a rearwardly extended lever on the change shaft cooperat- Ell ing with the lever on the dagger shaft to turn the dagger shaft to relieve the pressure on the hinders-when the change shaft is operated to cause weft replenishment.
In testimony whereof l have signed my name to this specification.
