Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HORACE M. EDSON, OF TOLEDO, OHIO.
IMPROVEMENT IN VULCANIZING APPARATUS FOR DENTISTS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,755, dated May 25, 1875 application filed June 3, 1874.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, HORACE M. EDSON, of Toledo, in the county of Lucas and in the State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Closing Vulcanizing Flasks or Molds; and do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. Y
The nature of my invention consists in a peculiar mode of closing flasks in vulcanizingmachines, as will be hereinafter described.
In the annexed drawings, which represent a side view, a section, and a plan view, of my invention, A represents the top of a steamboiler. The boiler is made in the usual way, and this cover or top A is secured on steamtight in any suitable manner. B B represent two rods, which pass through stuffing-boxes G G on the cover, and into the steam-space of the boiler. These rods pass down and connect to an annular or other suitable base, 0, at their lower ends, and at their upper ends they are connected by a cross-bar, D. A
screw-rod, E, passes through the cross-bar D, in which is a suitable female screw, and'rests at its lower end against the cover A. A handwheel is formed on the upper end of the screwrod, for the purpose of operating the same. F represent the flasks which contain the material, and which are placed upon the base 0.
When they are to be closed the screw E is operated by means of its hand-wheel, which draws up the bar D, the rods B B, and, consequently, the base 0, which forces the top of the flask against the under side of the cover A, and thus closes it.
The flasks are, by this arrangement, placed upon a flat base, and closed against a flat surface and between two parallel surfaces, making the work even and equal in its proportions.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The combination, with the cover A, of the boiler and stuffing-boxes G G, the rods B B, base 0, cross-bar D, and screw E, whereby the flasks on the base are drawn upward against the under side of the cover, substantially as set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing, I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 21st day of May, A. D. 1874.
HORACE M. EDSON. Witnesses:
