Description

y 5 H. A. JOHNSOS TAG Filed March 24. 1927 v EIUQWOW: ji axwfl.\fo/znsos Patented July 5, 1927.
UNITED STATES HANS A. JOHNSOS, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
TAG.
Application filed March 24, 1927. Serial N6. 177,927.
The present invention has for its object to provide a simple, cheap and attractive tag adapted to engage and conceal a button of the garment to which it may be attached and to display such information as price, size,
number or the like, together with advertising or like indicia.
The invention consists in the features of novelty hereinafter described and illustrated in the accompanying drawing and particularly pointed out in the claims at the end of this specification.
Fig. 1 is a view of a blank from tag may be formed.
Fig. 2 is a perspective view of tne tag showing the outer wall or printed side thereof.
Fig. 3 is a like perspective view of the tag from the opposite side.
Fig. 4 is a view showing the tag in position for use.
Fig. 5 is a view showing a modified way of forming my improved tag.
My improved tag is preferably made from a blank of thin cardboard or heavy paper,
such as shown in Fig. 1, that has subse quently been folded in the form of a flat tube,
as indicated in Figs. 2 and 8 of the drawing.
If desired, however, my improved tag may be which my .210 made by cutting individual tags from a long flattened tube of thin cardboard or the like,
that has been previously formed with button slots on the one side and containing the desired printed matter upon the opposite side, as indicated in Fig. 5 of the drawing.
If the be made from a blank, such as shown in Fig. 1, that part of the blank that is to form the inner wall or member a of the blank, will be folded along the scored or partially scored line aonto the inner face of that part of the blank that will form the outer wall or member I) of the tag; after which the extended end or flap portion 0 of the enter wall Z; will be folded along the scored line Z) onto the outer face of the wall and will be united securely thereto. The
face of the flap portion 0 is shown at a,
coated with adhesive material in readiness for use.
The inner wall or member a of the tag is provided with some suitable form of buttonreceiving slot, such for example as the T- shaped slot D, having an expanded end por tion d thatextends parallel with and adjacent to the folded flap or end portion 0 of the outer wall. The flap or end portion 0 not only serves to securely unite the inner and outer walls of the tag, but also serves to materially strengthen the slotted inner wall and lessen the danger of breaking such wall as the button is inserted therethrough. Upon through the slot D of the tag, the shanks or threads of the button slipping into the con tracted portion of the slot D after the head of the button has been inserted through the expanded part (Z of the slot. The outer face of the tag wall will then completely conceal the button and display the information printed or written upon the tag. Obviously the form of button-receiving slot may be varied as desired.
I I claim as my invention:
1. A tagof the character described, adapted to be attached to a garment button, said tag being in the form of a flattened tube, the inner wall or member of the tag having a button-receiving slot and the outer wall or member being adapted to cover a button and display printed or written matter.
2. A tag of the character described, adapted to be attached to a garment button, said tag beingin the form of a flattened tube comprising inner and outer walls or members. one of which members. is formed with a flap portion united to the other wall or member, the inner wall or member of the tag being formed with a button-receiving slot. 1
3. A tag of the character described adapted to be attached to a garment button,
said tag being in "the form of a flattened tube, the inner wall of the tag having a button-receiving slot expanded at one end and with a contracted portion extending therefrom, and the other wall of the tag being adapted to cover the button and having a portion folded over the edge of the inner wall and adjacent said slot.
March 21st, 1927.
