Our invention relates bellows and bellows actuating means,
actuating means includes to an automaton that is especially designed for use in adverand the like, the
our invention vbeing to housing shaped to represent the a person having a in the mouth, ,to of the housing a which a small electric motor, and to provide connections'between said bellows and Aapertures that are formed in the nose and mouth whereby smoke from a Vportions ofthe figure, j lighted cigar or" cigarette positioned in the holder will be drawn into the bellows on its suctionl stroke and forced outwardly through theopenings in the nose and mouth p ortions of the g ure insimulation ofthe act of smoking.' Y
Further objects of our inventionareto provide a smoking automaton that'is relatively simple in construction and which may tobacco products. Y

.shaped so as to represent the'fhead and shoulders of a person. Arranged viny the uppe .rear .portion of and like onthef end of this plate is an outwardly projecting plate 30 1926. serial no. 106,390.
this housing isa blockv 11 from` one 'end of which depends a bracket 12 and supported thereby is a small electric motor v13. One end of the shaft of this motor is extended, and carried by said extended end is a worm 14 that meshes with the teeth of a worm wheel 15, the latter being ixed on one end of a shaft 16 that has bearing in a bracket 17. VThis bearing vdepends yfromthe "block, 11 and mounted on the vfront end of the shaft 16 is a pinionlS that is engaged by the teeth of a gear wheel 19.' This gear wheel isv mounted on a stud 2O that is seated in the lower end of bracket 17 andr projectving outwardly from thev face of the gear of which is threaded andV screw-'seated inY A the upper` portion of a tube 23. Screw-seat# ved in the rlower portion of this'tube is 'the threaded upper end of a rod v24, the lower end thereof being pivotally connected to the lower portion of a bellows 25, rwhich latter is suitably supported inv the' lower portion of the chamberwithinhousing:10.
The threaded engagement of the rods 22 and 24 with tube `23 permits the connection l.between the wrist pin 21 andthe bellows to be adjusted in length and vafter being properly adjusted, the rods 22 and 24 may be locked to tube23 Vby set screws 26 that are seated in said tube 23.
yA block27 is connected by a hinge 28 to the top of bellowsf25, vsaid block having a verticallydisposed chamber 29"in which is varranged for v.reciprocating 'movement a vplate ,30; Formed integralwith the upper finger 31. that isjnot'ched or perforated for theaccommodation of rod 24 and ,adjustably Vseated onvsa'idvrodabove andbelowv the vfinger 31 vare collars 32.
Formed through isl a Vport 33 and one endrof said port communicates with avertically disposed slot 34 that is formed in the rear face of said plate. n Formed through the rear portionof the block` 27 is'aport 35 that is `always incommunication withV the slot '34, and'leading from port 35 to the interior of the bellows25 isa vflexible tube 36. Formed through the. front wall of block 27 and ar- ;Vra'nged onefimmediately abovethe otherare Y the centrali portion of l zoV ports 37 and 3S with which port 33 is ada-pted to alternately register as plate 30 is vertically reciprocated.
Passingthrough they wall ,of housingrt) and' located onthat portion ot the housing that represents the mouth ol the figure, is f housing that represents the noseof the ligure arel one or more apertures such as 43. Connected to the inner ends of the apertures 42 and 43 are the upper ends of small metal tubes 44, the lower portions thereof being united and leading from the united ends of these tubes to port 38 is a flexible, tube 45. Removably seated in the cigar Vhol-der 40 is a short tubular 'member 46 that is. adapted tov serve as a cigarette holder.
In the operation of oui. iijcprovedV smoking automatom a 'lighted cigarv is placed in holder 40, or the holder 46 carrying a lighted cigarette is placed insai-d holder 40, and
when the current 'is turned ron to motor 13,
the rotation of worm 14 drives worm wheel 15 and through pinion 18 the geark wheel 19 is driven.V Owing to therelativesizes of worm 14, worm wheel 15 "pinion 18 and gearwheel 19, the rotarymotion of said. gear wheel will be relatively slow, and as 'said gear wheel operates, the bellows will be slowly expanded and collapsed through theV reciprocating act-ion of the connections 22, 23 and 24. Y Y Y lfihile. the reciprocating connection between the gear wheel 19 'ind` bellows 25 is atr the upper end of its strokefwith Athe bellows fully collapsed, theengagement of the lower one 0f collars 32 against the underside of linger .3l postonsplate 3G Softlat port.

VDuring the first portion oi the succeeding upward stroke of the connection between gear wheel 19 and Ythe bellows, the smoke previously Vdrawn into the bellows will `beexpelled through tubular connection 36, port 35,7 slot. 34,"ports 33 and 3T, flexible tube 45 and `through' the branches of tube 44 Vto the openings 42 and 43, and
thusf'the smoke will be` expelled or dis-l charged from the nose and mouth'portions of the automaton in simulation of theY act'of ismolring. l
Thus litvwill be seen that weV haveV provided anaiuomaton smoking device that is relatively simple in constriuztion'` and which may be advantageously employedin .show windows and the like, for advertising cigars orrcigarettes. 1"
It will be understood that" minor changes in the size, form and construction lot theV various partsof our in'iprovedfsmoking automaton may be made and substituted for those herein shown and describedKV without Vdeparting from the spirit of our invention,
vthe scope of which -is set forth in the appended claims. 'Y Y Ve claim as our invention:
