Description
Patented June 7, 1927.
CHARLES GLOWACKI, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
GARTER.
Application filed December 18, 1925. Serial No. 76,168.
This invention relates to hosiery supporters, and has for an object the novel construction and arrangement of parts, producing abet-tor device than in general use.
For further comprehension of the invention, and of the objects and advantages thereof, reference will be had to the following description and accompanying drawing, and to the appended claims in which the various novel features of the invention are more particularly set forth.
Fig. 1 shows a perspective view of a leg having the invention device supporting a sock. Fig. 2 shows developed rear view of the device with one flap raised.
3 shows a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line 33 of Figure 2.
Fig. '4: shows a substantially similar view as Figure 3, but with length of supporters adjusted in central slot of main body.
Fig. 5 shows a substantially similar view as Figure 3, but with length of supporters adjusted in top slot of flap.
Fig. (3 shows an enlarged fragmentary front view of holding means illustrated in dotted lines in Figure 2.
The device is constructed with a main body portion formed by two strips and 1.1 stitched together to form one integral piece, and having sewn in at one end a buckle 12 adapted to be engaged in a multiple of apertures 13 at the other end to allow for ustment on the leg of the wearer.
Sewn in between said strips 10 and 11 on the lower edges thereof are supporter bodies 1 1, preferably two in number, having suitable supporting means at the lower extremity, as shown at 15 constructed in the usual way with a metallic member 16 engageable over a rubber button 17 and a protector sheet 18 preventing metallic member from contacting with wearers skin.
The main body portion just over the sup porter bodies 14: is constructed with a series of parallel longitudinal slots 20. A flap 19 sewed to the main body portion at its upper end by stitches 21 is situated in back of said body portion having slots 20, and is constructed with slots 22 positioned in ofi'- set relation to and out of registration with said slots 20, but of the same lengths as said slots. The flaps 19 normally are in the downward position as shown in the left hand part of Figure 2; the right hand part with 'the'fiap up is to clearly illustrate the slotsQO.
Thefunction of the slots consists in allowing a varying range of distance from supporting means to the main body portion. As shown in Figure 3 the device is in maxi mum distance position, while Figure 4t illustrates the supporting body 14 passed through a slot 20 thus adjusting to different desired positions, and to obtain an adjustment between any two slots '20, the supporting body is passed through a slot 22 in the flap 19 which are in offset position with regard to slots in main body, as illustrated in Figure 5. j
Preferably the device is made from nonelastic material, viz, the main body portion,
the flaps, the supporting bodies, etc.
While I have illustrated and described my invention, withsome degree of particularity,
I realize, that in practice various alterations therein may be made. I therefore reserve the right and privilege of changing the form of the details of construction or otherwise altering the arrangement of the co related parts without departing from the spirit or the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows 1. A supporter of the class described comprising a body portion, fastening means on one extremity of said body portion adapted to be attached to the other end thereof, said body portion having a plurality of superimposed parallel slots and extending longitudinally thereof, a depending extension secured to said body portiondirectly below said slots, said depending portion being adapted to be laced through anydesired one of said slots for adjusting the effective length thereof, and a fastening member secured to thelower end of said depending the lower end of said extension, said extension being adapted to be disposed upwardly and threaded through any desired one of said plurality of slots for shortening the effective length of said extension.
3. In a supporter of the class described, a body portion comprising inner and outer layers of flexible material, spaced depend-- ing extensions disposed at their upper ends between said outer and inner layers and rigidly secured thereto by stitches adjacent the longitudinal edges thereof, said body member being provided with a series of superimposed slots extending longitudinally thereof directly above the upper stitched edges of said depending extensions, flaps secured tov the upper edge of said body portion directly above the superin'iposed slots tl1QI'll1,t1D l: disposed adjacent the inner surface thereof, said flaps being provided with spaced superimposed slots disposed in offset relation to and out of registration with the slots in said body portion, fastening means secured to the lower end of'said extensions adapted for attachment to hose, said extensions being adapted to be disposed upwardly and projected forwardly through any desired one of the slots in said body portion for producing a predetermined effective length thereof or to be projected rearwardly through any desired slot of the series of said flap for producing a different predetermined effective length of said extensions.
1-. A supporter of the class described comprising a body portion provided with a plurality of spaced superimposed slots extend-- ing longitudinally thereof, a flap secured at its upper edge to said body portion directly above said longitudinal slots and disposed adjacent the inner surface of said body portion comprising a series of superimposed slots positioned in otl'set relation to and out of registration with the slots of said body portion, and 11 depending extension secured to said body portion directly below the slots therein adapted to be disposed upwardly and threaded through any one of the slots insaid body portion or in said flap for producing a predetermined effective length of said extension. r
In testimony whereof I have aflixed my signature.
CHARLES GLOWACKI.
