IMPROVEMENT IN QUILTING-FRAME CLAMPS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,102, dated May 11, 1875 application filed April 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, UBERTO NQPARTRIDGE, of Boston, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Quilt-Frame Holders; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full and clear description of the same, which will enable others to make and use my improved holders.
The invention relates to a metal clamp for holding the side and end bars of a quiltingframe together during the quilting operation, the clamp being adjustable to any position, and held in place by means of thumb-screws.
The invention will be readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification.
Figure I is a general plan of one corner of a quilting frame secured by my improved clamp. Fig. II is a side elevation of the clamppiece detached from the frame. Fig. III is an end elevation of the clamp-piece.
The side rail A of the quilting-frame lies on top of the end rail B of the said frame, in the usual manner, and the side rail is rolled over, so as to wind up the quilt on it as the quilting operation is completed, and the said rails are clamped together in any position by the metal clamp O. The clamp piece or holder 0 is formed with a transverse rib, c, that embraces the end rail of the frame by passing over the top of said rail down its two sides, and two ends, 0 of it turned under the bottom of the rail B. The rib c c fits loosely on the rail B, so as to slide easily thereon as the side rail A changes its position. From about the central part of the rib a branch two longitudinal ribs, 0 0 The rib 0 lies. parallel with and close to the top surface of the end rail B, and the thumbserew (:4 is arranged to set down tightly on the said end rail, for the purpose hereinafter described. The rib extends npward from 0 a sufficient height to take in the thickness of the side rail A, and then branches over on top of the said rail, where a thumb-screw, 0 is threaded in it, so as to clamp down on rail A. When the thumb-screws c and c are set down tightly on the pieces A B, they will draw the bottom ends of the clamp 0 up tightly to the bottom surface of the piece B, and the two pieces A B will be firmly clamped together in this manner in any desired position.
Having thus described my invention, I desire to claim The clamp O, composed of the transverse ribs 0 and c, the longitudinal ribs 0 and 0 and the set-screws c and 0 in combination with the quiltingframe A B, substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
This specification signed this the 9th day of March, 1875.
