TUBE.
Application filed June 15,1926; Serial No. 116,968.
This invention relates to improvements in tubes forholding paste and the like, the general object of the invention being to provide means for 'opening and closing the mouth of the tube by a valve-like member so as toeliminate the use of a-cap or the like.
Another object of the invention is to pro vide a handle for the valve-like member which is movable in a small arc of acircle so thatthetubecan be easily'opened and closed by a'slight movement of the handle. This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several arts, to be hereinafter fully described, ilustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claims. In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like parts throughout the severalviews, an in which:- V
Figure l is a sectional. view, through a tube, showing the invention in use.
Figured is a similar view, but showing the valve in open position. 1fi igure 3 "s an elevation of the improved tu e. I
Figure 4 is a section t iron at right angles to Figured. Figure 5 is a top plan view. l i eat and 7 are views of the valve rnem er,
ln these views, 1 indicates the tube whichis termed with a head2 having the discharge passage 3 passing therethrough. -As shown,
this passage is madein the form" of an elongated slot. A transverse cylindrical bore 4; is formed in the headand intersects the passage and a c lindrical shapedivalve or body 5, is rotatab y mounted in the bore. This body or valve isformed with a diametrical slot 6 which, when the valve is turned to a certain osition', will register with the poses an thus permit some at the contents 0 the tube to when the tube is squeeaed. 11 another osition' at the valve or body, the slot wil extend at right angles to the passage and thus the passage will be closed by the solid por tion ot the valve or body. A slot *i'is also formed in the valve or. body'- and extends from one wall or the slot 6 through a sideot the body and this slot 7 is so arranged so that the handle can be move said slot will be ass therefrom that when the body is in' a-position with the slot 6 extending crosswise of the passage, the slot 7 will register with the upper part of the passage 3 and thus be in communication with the interior of the tube, as shown in lFiguresl and i. This will prevent the material in the passage 6 from hard or'giry as it will be kept moist by being in communication with the material within the tube. i
A yoke-shaped handle 8 has its ends connected with the ends of the valve and the central part of its -bight is provided with a loop 9 which forms a finger on aging part I p from one osition to another to open or close the valve.
houlders'lO and are formed on the head and act as stops for the handle. From the foregoing, it will be seen that with the parts in a position as shown in becoming I the slot 6 will be in communication with theinterior of the tube so that the material in revented from becoming hard and dr y ressing the handle over against t e shoul er'10" as-shown in Figure 2, the slot 6 will reglster with the ,passage 3 so that material can pass through the head.
Thus I have produced a simple and etiective closure forv a tube. -The closure can cap which is often lost and which takes time to screw on andunscrew from the tube.
It is thought from the foregoin description that the advantages, and nove features of m invention will be readily apparent.
. I esire it to be understood that I may make changes "in the construction anclin the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claims.
'What I claim is z-- 1.' Atube for paste and the like comprising a head havin a dischar e passage therein. and a bore intersecting t e passage,
a rotary valve in the bore and having a slot therein for registering with the assage when the valve is moved to a certain position, a yoke shaped handle connected with the ends of the valve for moving the same,-
said valve having a slot leading from the first slot through one side of the valve :tor
llO
I placing s a id'fi r st slot in communication with the interior of ,the tube when the valve is in closed position and the head having shoulders 'the'reon'for limiting the movement of the handle. v
2A tube for paste and the like comprising ahead having adischarge passage therein and a bore intersecting the passage, a
rotary valve in the bore and having a slot therein for registering with thepassage when the valve is moved to a certain posi-.
' den, a handle connected with the valve for moving the same, said valve having a. slot ing the movement of the handle, one
shoulder acting to stop the parts "with the slot in the side of the valve in communication with the tube.
in testimony whereof I efi'ix my signature.
