IMPROVEMENT lN FASTENERS FOR THE MEETING-RAILS OF SASHES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,040, dated May 11, 1875; application filed March To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THOMAS WILSON, of Belleville, Essex county, State of New Jersey, have invented an Improved VVindow- Fastening, of which the following is a specification:
The object of my invention is to provide a simple and secure fastening for counterbal anced Window-sashes; and my invention consists in a narrow jointed flap hinged to the edge of a suitable base-plate, with a turn-button, likewise secured to the base-plate, the button moving laterally over and onto the jointed flap, and holding it down securely.
1n the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows the upper side of the fastening, with the flap down and loose, the button being turned back, the lifting of the sash turning up the hinged flap to the position shown in Fig. 2. Fig. 3 is a side View of the fastening locked down by the button.
The base-plate A is secured to the inner surface of the bottom rail of the upper sash.
1 The flap B is hinged to the outer edge of the plate A, and lies across the top rail of the lower sash. The button 0 turns on a pin on the line of the middle of the flap, the pin being as near the flap as is convenient for the purpose of having the back end of the button afford as much leverage as possible to resist upward pressure of the sash. The end or projection d of the button is beveled, fitting into a corresponding beveled recess, 0, in the upper side of the flap. The hinged or jointed flap, pressing on the rail, is securely locked when the button is turned over it.
What I claim is- The jointed flap B, hinged to the base-plate A, in combination with the button 0, likewise attached to the base-plate, all substantially as shown and described, for the purpose set forth.
