GATE;
7 Application filed September 4, 1925. Serial No. 54,554.
This invention relates to rotary gates and its principal object is to provide a gravity which are movable over the cam track or rings are runway and which after passing over the raised parts of the track travels into the depressed parts thereof to return the gate to a position to extend across the roadway.
"Vith the preceding and other objectsand advantages in view, the invention consists in the novel combination of elements, construction, arrangement of parts and operations, to be hereinafter specifically referred to, claimed and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein:
Figure 1 is an elevation of the gate in closed position.
Figure 2 is a similar view showing parts in section.
Figure 3 is a top plan View of the gate,
the dotted lineposition indicating the gatein open position] V Figure 4 is an'end elevation of the gate. Figure 5 is a sectional view taken on the line 55 of Figure 3.
angles to Figure 5.
7 Referring to thedrawings in detail wherein corresponding characters of reference denote corresponding parts throughout the several views, the numeral 5 designates a vertically arranged post'and rotatable about this post adjacent its ends are rings (5. These formed at diametrically opposite points, with channel-shaped brackets 7. The fnumeral 10 designates a'pair of gate sections which are arranged upon opposite sides of the post 5 and which have their ends receivedin the brackets 7 and secured thereto by means 11. A collar 12 is also rotatable about the post. The collar 12 is pro vided at diametrically opposite points 7 with pairs of spaced earslS which are secured to the gates, as at 141.
Annular-tracks or runways 15 are fixed,
' by means 16, on the post directly below the rings 6. The upper face of each of these tracks 15 is concaved or dished. from diametrically opposite points and afford triane gular shaped projections 17 that are disposed at diametrically opposite points and concaved depressions 17 between said pro 'jectio ns. Carried by each of the rings 16 and ournaled lnwardly therefrom at diametrically opposite points, are rollers 18 which rest on and are movable over the cam track or runway and projections 17. r .Secured to the lower portions. and upon.
the opposite sides of the respective gates 10 there are bars 19 whose inner ends are se cured directly to thefgate, as at 20, while their opposite endsare fixed on brace elements 21 that are secured to the ends of the I gates. By this arrangement each bar 19 extends at an angle from the gate on which it is fixed, as shown inFigui-e 3. As many bars 19 as desiredv may be secured in the same manner as shown, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
As shown in dotted lines in Figure 3 the bars 19' are in the nature of contact elements and are adapted to be engaged by the front -wheels of an approachingvehicle to rotate the gates to open position as is also shown by the dotted line s in the said figure. The bars may also'be of a height to be engaged .bya' bumper of an automobile.
"' N rFic E.
As the gate is rotated to open position by impact from the automobile or by hand, the rollers 18 traveling over the projections 17 Figure 6' is a similar view taken at right 1 of the track or runway will raise the gate sire to have'it understood that such chang s may b'emadegin the form, construction, arrangement of parts and operations, as will not departfrom the spirit of the invention orthe scope of the subjoined claims.
hat is claimed is:
Agate construction including a crossscctionally rounded post, upper and lower annular members secured on the post, each of said members having their upper faces concaved and dished from diametrically oppo-- site points to provlde tracks and to afford,
at its said diametrically opposite points projections, and concaved walls between said projections, a gate comprising two sections, ring members having oppositely directed bifurcated arms which receive therein and have fixed thereto the respective gate sec- 5 tions, said ring members being disposed opposite the tracks and having journaled therein rollers which rest on the tracks, and
a collar surrounding the post and having oppositely extending pairs of cars which receive therein and are fixed to the gate 10 sections.
In testimony whereof I ntlix my signature.
