Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that E, Josnr YVILozYNsKI, a citizen of Poland, residing at 1293 St. Aubin avenue, Detroit, county or Vfayne, and State of Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Railroad-Switches, of which the following is a specification.
This invention has for its object the provision of means whereby the switch points of a railway may be actuated so as to cause a car to travel either along the main line or be diverted to a siding as may be desired.
A further object is to provide such means in forms which may be manually actuated from either side of the track or curve, at either end thereof, or by devices carried by the car.
Another object is to provide such devices in forms which are relatively inexpensive to construct, easily applied and positive in their operation.
These objects are attained by the novel construction and combination of parts hereinatter desc ibed and shown in the accompanying drawings, forming a material part of this disclosure, and in wnich Figure 1 is a top plan view showing a section of railroad track and indicating the application of the invention, and

Referring to the drawings in detail, the numeral represents one of the r. ils of the main or straight track, and 1.1 the other, branched into the curve 12, parallel to a similar curved rail 1e, joined with continuation 13 of the straight track rail.
T ie mate point extending between the the . i 11 and 13 is engaged with the switch point 16, the being a continuation oi outer rail 14- and is engageable with the straight rail 10. The switch and mate points are connected by brackets 17 and 18 with the cross bar 19, below the track rails and er-ztending therebeyond at each end, in which are set rigid raised pins or projections and 31 respectively.
Fixed upon the track-way, adjacent to the rails, substantially at equal distance from the switch point, are brackets comprised of bases 22, their raised elements being joined by plates 23, from the center of which rise hollow cylindrical stems 2a, in which are mounted vertical spindles 25, having at their upper ends extending, lever-like angularly disposedhandle elements 26 by which the spindles may be rotated.
Fixed upon the lower ends of the spindles are angularly extending lever arms 27, containing slots 28 receptive of pins 29, formed with the outwardly extending arms 30, integral with bars 31, these bars being shaped to agree with the sides of the rails with which they make contact, either straight or curved as shown. The inner adjacent ends of the bars 31 are reduced in thickness and extended outwardly from the rails with which they make contact, their exterior edges presenting angular profiles 32 adapted to make contact with the pins or projections 21 of the cross bar 19, so that as the bars 31 are moved to or from one another, the cross bar 19 is moved correspondingly, carrying the switch and mate points with it.
In order to move all of the several bars 31 simultaneously, radially extending arms 33 and 3 1 extend from opposite sides of the bars, and pivoted upon pins 35, carried by them, are connecting bars 36 and 37, extending between opposite disposed arms, and in turn pivoted with pins 38, in the center of their length, the bars being caused to move simultaneously by links 39, engaged with the pivots upon one side of the trackwr the links in turn being pivoted at their adjacent ends by a connecting bar 4E0, this connecting bar being pivoted by the pin #11 secured in the trackway, substantially in alinement with the bar 19.
From the foregoing it will be seen that when any of the handles 26 of the four brackets are partially rotated, as indicated by the dotted lines, all of the several bars 29 are actuated, the pair upon one side being moved toward each other and the pair upon the opposite side being moved from each other, which movement communicated, due to their angular cam faces 32 and pins 20, to the bar 19, obviously shift the switch and mate points so as to divert a car upon either the straight or curved track as desired.
t will also be apparent that these handles may be actuated manually from either side of the track and at either end 01 the switch point, or that a proper contact appliance may be carried on the car at its advancing end which will perform the function of turning the handles as may be desired.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isr 1. In a railway switch, the combination with the running rails and switch and mate points comprised therein, of trackside brackets secured alongside said rails at each endof said switch and mate points, spindles rotatably contained in said brackets, means for actuating said spindles, levers formed with said spindles, bars slidably engaged alongside said rails, connections between said levers and said bars whereby they are moved in unison, a cross bar extending between switch point and mate point, pins set in the extreme end of said cross bar, and angular cam faces formed upon the inner ends of said slidable bars adapted to actuate said cross bar.

In a railroad switch, the combination with the running rails, and a switch point and a mate point comprised therein, of a cross bar passing below said switch and mate point, connections therebetween where both are moved sinuiltaneously, pins set in the outer extremities of said cross bar, a pair of sliding bars mounted adjacent to the rails of said track, angular cam faces formed upon the outer surfaces of said bars at their adjacent ends adapted to make contact with said pins, and means for simultaneously moving said sliding bars to or from each other upon the opposite sides of the trackway whereby said cross bar is moved transversely of said track.
In a railway switch, the combination with the running rails constituting a curve, a switch and mate point engaged therein, a cross-bar'passing below the points of said switch and mate point, connections there upward between, projections extending from said cross-bar at its extremities, levers having cam surfaces arranged in pairs upon the opposite sides of said track bearing against said projections, means extending between all of said levers whereby they are moved simultaneously in pairs upon opposite sides, one pair being moved toward each other and the other pair in an opposite direction, and means for actuating said lovers from either side of said trackway and in advance and at the rear of said switch points.
