Fig. 6, is an enlarged fragmentary front elevational as used in manually operated As herein embodied View, showing the cross support connection with my improved toy.
my improved manually operated toy comprises two vertical arms 10 an ments 12 and 13, or handles,
by nails 14 d 11, having suitable lower eleand attached and 15, or the like, respectively to the extremities of a cross support 16, at
or near the elements 12 upper portion of the said lower and 13.
The upper extremities 17 and 18, respectively of the vertical arms 10 and 11, are
provided with elongated slots 19 and 20 respectively, havinga plurality of notches 21,
oppositely located, closer together as and spaced somewhat further located from the said cross support 16.
The adjustable blocks shaped, are
22, rectangular provided with engaging members 23, attached thereto as at 24, by a dovetail, or any similar suitable means, the said engaging members 23 being made of. rubher, or any similar suitable material, and
having extended portions 25, oppositely located, and of suitable shape and size to engage the tremities 17 notches 21 of the said upper exand 18 of the said vertical arms 10 and 11. It being understood that the engaging members 23 are of suitable width to engage the said elongated slots 19 and 20, and that the adjustable blocks 22 are somewhat wider-than the-said engaging members 23. The adjustable blocks 22 and the engaging members 23 are provided With-apertures 26, located at or near the extremities there of, to accommodate a flexible'memberfli, cord, string, or the like, which is passed through the said apertures 26, and the aper= tures 32 and 33 located above one another in the free extremities ofthe arms 28, of a figure, preferably that of an acrobat, com- I prising a body 29 and head 30, having said arms 28, and legs 31, pivotallyattached thereto. It being clearly understood" that the hereinbefore mentioned figure, may be 7 that of a monkey, or any suitable figure, and that the said figure will be normally vertically supported from the said flexible member 27, as clearly shown in Fig. 4, of the accompanying drawing. 8 It will be further understood that the said cross support 16, will be provided with a slightly curved or relieved upper extremity, as designated by. the reference numeral 3 1, to permit the vertical arm 10 to be rocked or tilted'by'pressing together and freleasing the said vertical arms 10 and 11,
which will cause the flexible member 27 to wind and unwind so as to impart acrobatic mot-ion to the said figure, understood that the said acrobatic motion may be increased by positioning the said engaging members in the said notches 21 further located from the said cross support 16.
WVhile I have above described the preferred form, construction, and arrangement of the several elements employed, it will be understood that the device is, nevertheless, susceptible of considerable modification therein, and I therefore reserve the privilege of resorting to all such changes as may be fairly embodied within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to. protect by Letters Patent of the United States is as follows:
1. A toy comprising substantially vertical arms, a cross support attached to said arms and disposed between the extremities thereof, said vertical arms being provided with it being clearly 0 p elongated slots, adjustable blocks engaging the elongated slots, means on said blocks for retaining the latter in an adjusted position, a flexible member attached to said adjustable blocks, and a figure threaded on said flexible member, said flexible member being adapted to be actuated by movement of the ends of said arms to impart acrobatic motion to said figure.
2. A toy comprisingvertical arms, a cross support attached at its extremities to said vertical arms, the upper extremities of the said Vertical arms being provided with elongated slots having a plurality of notches oppositely located, and spaced closer together as further located from the said cross support, adjustable blocks mounted onthe side of said Vertical arms, engaging members attached to said blocks by a dovetail, said engaging members having extended portions oppositely located to engage the said notches, said adjustable blocks and said engaging members provided with apertures located at the extremities thereof to accommodate a flexible member, Which is passed through apertures located above one another in the free extremities of the arms of a figure comprising a body and head, having said arms and legs pivotally attached thereto, so as to support the said figure in a normally vertical position, said cross support provided with a curved extremity to permit one of the said vertical arms to be rocked bypressing together and releasing the said vertical arms, to cause the said flexible member to Wind and unwind, so as to impart acrobatic motion to the said figure.
3. A toy comprising vertical arms, a cross support having rounded ends attached at'its extremities to said vertical arms, said vertical arms having slotsv therein, adjustable members comprising means for retaining a fixed position of adjustment associated with said slots, a flexible member attached to said adjustable members and movable therewith, and a figure journaled on said flexible mem- 361' dapted to be actuated by movement thereof for producing acrobatic motion, said adjustable members being adapted to be positioned substantially at the extremities of said vertical arms for increasing the actuation of said figure and to be positioned at the lower ends of said slots for decreasing said actuation.
In testimony whereof I have aifixed my signature.
