result of the operation of a single actuating medium.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent to the reader of the following description.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 represents a front elevational view of the toy.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view.
Figure 3 is an enlarged fragmentary vertical sectional view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 1.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary vertical sectional view through the suspension means for one of the figures.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary elevational view showing the hinged means for the actuating legs.
Referring to the drawings wherein like numerals designate like parts, it can be seen that the present toy is constructed for simultaneous operation or activation of five figures. However, this number may be increased or decreased while still employing principal factors of the present invention. The five figures are generally referred to by A; B, C, D and E.
Each figure comprises a body portion 5 having a pair of legs each made up of an upper section '6 and a lower section 1, the sections being pivoted together and to the body 5. Each figure has a pair of arms 8, 8 disposed upwardly in diverged relation to each other and connected by tie rods 9 held in place by nuts I0. Disposed through the arms 8, 8 of the figures B, C (for instance), are two cords (or like elements) H, II. These cords are disposed through openings in the upper end portions of the arms 8. The intermediate portions of these cords II, II are looped as at l2 through openings in the upper ends of upwardly disposed posts I3 which are secured at their lower ends to angle members [4 supported by a bridge member I5. As can be seen in Figure 3, there are two of these posts l3 disposed in upwardly diverged relation and connected together by a brace member 16. A post I? rises from the bridge member l5 and has a small plat form l8 mounted on its upper end to serve as a platform for the uppermost figure A.
The end portions of the bridge l5 are hingedly tax secured as at l9 to u per portions of handles 20, each of which has a V-shaped upper portion defining diverged posts 2|, 2| through which are disposed the ends of the cords II, II for the figures B and'C and like cords 22, 22 for the figures D and E. As is apparent, the cords H, H, as well as the cords 22, 22 are twisted just beyond the arms 8, 8 of each figure so that any pull on these cords by the action of the posts 2|, 2! will cause a rotary swinging motion of the corresponding figures and the momentum of the figure turning over will cause another twist in the cord for reversed operation of the figures.
As can be seen in Figures 1 and 2, elongated runners 23 are secured to the handles 20 and extend well above the upper ends of the diverged posts 2|, 2|, these runners having inwardly disposed portions 24 terminating in upstanding lugs 25 through which cords or the like 26, 26 are disposed and fastened to support the figure A by its arms as is shown in Figure 1.
Figure A has the lower sections of its legs just fairly spaced from the platform l8, so that when the figure A is operating there will be certain flexing of the cords 26, 26 which will result in a tapping action of the legs of the figure against the platform l8, to simulate dancing. Obviously, when the handles 20 are held in the hands and pushed inwardly and then allowed to spring upwardly, the result will be to activate all five figures simultaneously and this multitude of action will be highly pleasing to children and amusing to adults.
While the foregoing specification sets forth the invention in specific terms, it is to be understood that numerous changes in the shape, size and materials may be resorted to without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed hereinafter.
Having described the invention, what claimed as new is:
1. A toy of the character described comprising a pair of side members of substantially Y shape, a bridge member to which the side members are hingedly secured, and whirligigs supported for operation between opposed upper portions of the said side members, each of said side members being provided with a post rising above the upper ortion of the corresponding side member, a Whirligig mounted for operation between the upper ends of the posts, a riser on the bridge member, a platform on the riser, said platform being positioned with respect to the last-mentioned Whirligig to permit the last-mentioned Whirligig to tap on said latform.
passed therethrough at a point between the flgures of the air.
3. A toy of the character described comprising a pair of side members of substantially Y shape providing upwardly diverging pairs of opposed upper arms on said side members, a bridge member to which the side members are hingedly secured, a pair of toy figures supported by a twisted flexible member for operation between each pair of opposed upper arms of the said side members, and upwardly diverging posts mounted on the bridge member and each having the twisted flexible member of a pair of the toy figures passed therethrough at a point between the figures of the pair, said side members being provided with posts rising above the upper portions thereof, and a toy figure mounted by a twisted flexible member for operation between the upper ends of the posts.
