My invention relates to improvements in toys in which one or more objects secured to a string may be made to recede from and return to a player; and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide a toy that will arouse and maintain interest; second, to provide a toy to move people to think and teach them something of natural forces; and, third, to provide a toy that can be manufactured and sold at a price so low that it may be obtained with ease and enjoyed by large numbers of people.

I attain these and other objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure I is a view in perspective of my invention; Figure II is an elevational side view of parts of my invention, and Figure III is a cross section view on the line AA of Figure 11.

Similar numerals refer to similar parts throughout the several views.

Making more extended and particular reference to Figure I, the numeral 1 indicates a cord; 2, a guide to serve in maintaining a desired relationship between said cord and other parts of my invention; 3-3, sections; 4, a screw or the like; 5-55, a swing; and 6, a figure such as a monkey or the like.

In Figure II, the numeral 1 indicates the cord; 2, the guide; 3-3, the sections; 4-4, screws or the like; and 5-5, fragmentary parts of the swing.

In Figure III, the numeral 2 indicates a cross section of the guide; 3-3, a cross section of said sections; 4-4, cross sections of screws or the like; and 5-5, cross sections of fragmentary parts of the swing, all of said cross sections being along the line A-A in Figure II.

After winding the cord around the hub between the two sections, a player holds said cord near its upper termination and permits the remainder of the toy to fall. This remainder part of the toy descends while the said cord unwinds, then ascends while the said cord rewinds. By gently moving the hand that holds said cord in an upward then in a downward direction, a player may prolong the descending and ascending movement of the toy indefinitely. The said guide for said cord preserves the desired relationship between said cord and the remainder of said toy and thus prevents said cord from becoming entangled with any other part of said remainder of said toy.

Having described my invention, what I claim as new and desire protected by Letters Patent of the United States, is:

1. In a toy of the class described, a hub extending into and holding two circular sections apart from each other, a linear element secured to said hub, means of support extending partly into the ends of said hub; a frame member movably mounted on said means of support, said frame member having an aperture in its upper terminal, a linear element passing through said aperture and secured to said hub, and a movable swing having an occupant, pendent from said means of support.

2. In a device of the class described, two circular sections mounted on a hub, a means of support extending partially into each end of said hub, a linear element wound around said hub, said linear element extending upwardly and through an opening in a frame member, the terminals of said members two shanks being fitted over said means of support, and a swing with an occupant pending from said means of support, substantially as described.

3. In a toy of the class described, a frame member mounted and movable upon a means of support that project outwardly from the ends of a hub upon which two circular sections are mounted, a linear element wound around said hub and extending upwardly through an aperture at the top of said frame member, a movable swing and an occupant seated in said swing.

4. In a toy of the class described, a linear element extending downwardly through an aperture in the top of a frame member and secured to and then wound around a hub, two circular sections mounted on said hub, means of support that project from the ends of said hub, said frame member being mounted upon said means of support, and a swing pendent therefrom.

5. In a device of the kind described, a frame mounted on means of support that extend outwardly from a hub upon which are mounted two circular sections, a linear element secured to said hub and extending upwardly through an aperture in the upper terminal of said frame member, and a swing with an occupant pendent from said means of support.
