-The filling material is now 'being fed out through the throat 11' and the spout 12 and is passing into the bag, which is being supported jointly by the tension spring 21 and the platform 55 of the weighing scale. In the present embodiment the spring 21 will withstand a given force before yielding and the scale supporting thexbag from the bottom rethe weight 57, which will beequal to the force necessary to overcome the resiliency of the spring 21. This will cause"an elongation in the spring 21 and thofspout 12 will move downward y about the' pivot points 1414' causing a corresponding upward movement of the. rear end of the bars 13 -13", which carry the trip 17. As this trip 17 is raised, the lever 36 is released and the balance weight 35 moves downwardly, thereby pulling the links 37' and 38 rearwardly, which causesthe stop 41 to engage the trip lever 28; and the stop 47to engage the arm 44 of the bell crank 45, thereby movi-n the end 44 downwardly in the slot 43.. he trip leverr28 is thereby pulled against the trigger 29 which 'disengages the latch 31 from the catch 43 and allows the gate 42 to be 'moved downwardly in response to the pull of weight 48, thereby closin the throat 11. The movement of the trip le 28 also raises the serrated edge 25, to thereby release the bag so that it might be removed. At this time, the bagis still partiall supported from the bottom and is also supported 'from the spout '12,and guide 12.
The filled bag is now removed and the load having been removed from the spring 21, it returns to its normal position carrying with it the spout 12 which returnsthe rods 1313 to their normal position and moves the trip 17 back'toits normal'position. This completes a cycle of operation, and the machine is now in position to repeat the operation as above described.
When it is desired to vary the mass'or weight of material placed in the bags it is merely necessary to change the weight 57, and for a fin'er adjustment also the riderweig'ht 64.
In the operation of the machine incorporating the modified spout structure, the bag is placed imposition on the support with the edge of-the bag nearest the machine passingcover theforwardl extending collar 69 and thence around t e lower part of the spout 66, andewhen in this position the end of the spout 66 will be extending. into the ,bag' It will therefore be seen that the.
' flange 67 will prevent the filling material from passing out betweeuthe member 71 and the spent 66. The operation of the machine is similar to that heretofore described except that in this modification the spout remains stationary andithe supipor't70 moves downwardly when the bag is lled; thereby moving the rods 13-13 downwardly to 0perate the mechanism associated therewith in' .a manner similar: to that heretofore described. This modification furnishes a simple and durable supporting mechanism which is free from any the disadvantages which may attend mei' -i anism in which the spou't is movable with respect to.the feed 70 hopper. In this modification as well as in the embodiment heretofore described the spout is free from the weighing scale mechanism.
Having thus described our invention with 76 particularity with reference to the preferred embodiment of the same, and having referred to some of the possible modifications thereof, it will be obvious to those skilled in the art after understanding our inven- 80 tion, that other changes and modifications may be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention, and we aim in' the pppended claims to cover such changes and. modifications as are within the scope of the invention.
\Vhat we claim is:
1. In a valve bag filling machine the combina tion of a spring su ported substant1ally horizontal valve bag fil ing spout adapted to extend into 2. ba a discharge throat in register with 5 id fi ing spout, and a scale pro vided with a 'bag supporting .port1on,'sa1d' spout and scale jointly providing means for supporting-a bag while itis being filled.
2. In'a valve .bag filling machme the combination of a discharge throat, a gate for said throat, a valve bag filling spout in register with saidvthr'oat, resilient means suprting said spent, a scale rovided with a E g supporting portion, sai spout and=scale jointly providing means for supporting a bag while it is bemg filled, and control means for said gate operated by the yielding of said resilient means. 106

In a valve bag filling machine the combination of a supporting structure, a discharge throat carried thereby, a gate for said throat, a valve bag filling spout in register with said throat and pivoted to said struc- 110 ture, resilient tension means supportmg said spout, a scale-provided with a bag supporting portion, and means operated by the pivotal movement of said ut to move said gate to thereby close sai throat.
4. In a valve bag filling machine the combination of a discharge throat, a pivotally. supported valve bag filli spout in continuous registration therewit resilient means supporting said ut, a gate for said threat, 1
' locking means to old sald gate in open position, and control means operated by the yielding of said tension means for releasing said locking means to. thereby move said gate to close said throat.
