RUBBER HEEL.
Application led January 13, 1926.
The leading object of the present invention is to provide a novel rubber heel which may be readily attached to a conventional leather r other heel of a shoe without the employment of rubber cement.
A further object is to provide an inexpensive and simple arrangement and construction of parts for attaining the results sought by the leading object.
Other and further objects will appear hereinafter.
The invention consists of the novel oonstruction hereinafter' described and finally claimed.'
The nature, characteristic features and scope of the invention will be more fully understood from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part hereof, and in which:
Fig. l, is a view in elevation of a shoe provided with a rubber heel embodying the invention.
Fig. 2, is a perspective view of a metal plae for attachment thereto of a rubber Fig. 3, is a view in plan of a metal plate detached from the rubber heel.
Fig. 4, is a view in plan of a completed rubber heel.
Fig. 5, is a view in section taken upon the line 5-5 of Fig. 4; and
Fig. 6, is a view in section taken upon the line 6-6 of Fig. 4.
For the purpose of illustrating my invention I have shown in the accompanying drawings one form thereof which is at present preferred by me, since the same has been found in practice to give satisfactory and'reliable results, although it is to be understood that the various instrumentalities of which my invention consists can be variously arranged and organized and that my invention is not limited to the precise arrangement and organization of the instrumentalities as herein shown and described.
Referring to the drawings in detail, the reference numeral l designates a shoe provided with the usual heel 2, usually of leather, to which is to be applied the rubber Ycuredgat the rear by inserting a screw Serial No. 80,937.
heel of the present invention. Extended laterally across the underside of the heel 2 4adjacent the front portion is a metal strap 3 secured as by screws or the like at 4. This strap 3 intermediate its ends is bent-to form a pair of spaced, longitudinally extended depressions 5, see Fig. 2. Adapted to engage the sockets formed by these depressions 5 when Said plate abuts against the underside of the leather heel 2 are a pair of spaced tongues 6 projecting from the upper surface of a. rubber heel 7. The tongues 7 are stamped from a metal plate 8 which latter is vulcanized within the rubber heel so that only the said tongues are visible. Thus, by sliding the tongues into the sockets aforesaid the front of the rubber heel is maintained firmly in place and may be ser through the apertures 9 and 10 in the rubber heel and plate 8 respectively. To lighten the plate 8 the same is cut away at l1. So that the plate 8 may be well anchored :it its front, the plate is provided the three forwardly extended fingers l2. The above described arrangement of parts permits ready attachment of a rubber hec-l without the employment of rubber cement the advantages of which are apparent.
lt will now be apparent that l have devised a novel und useful construction which embodies the features of advantage enumerated as desirable in the statement of the invention and the above description and while I have in the presentinstance shown and described the preferred embodiment thereof which has been found in practice to give satisfactory and reliable results, it is to be understood that the same is susceptible of modification in various particulars without departing from the spirit or scope. of the invention or sacrificing any of its advantages.
That I claim is:
In combination a shoe the conventional heel of which has attached laterally across the underside thereof at its .forward portion a long, narrow metal strap having spaced tongue receiving openings entirely thereacross, a heel of rubber having vulcanized therein a metal plate of thin metal having its central portion out away to lightcentral finger for engaging said strap 0penen construction and having spaced forwardings, and means penetrating the rubber heel ly extended end fingers and a central finand plate at the rear and engaging the shoe l0 ger to provide anchors at the hee-l front. heel to interlock said part-s.
f' and projected from which plate through the In testimony whereof, I have hereunto upper face of said rubber heel are ,apair of signed my name. A l spaced tongues one upon each side of said KURT KAUTZSCH.
