Description

Sept. 20, 1927. J FOWLER 1542,991
HEEL ATTACHING DEVICE Filed Jan. 7, 1926 Patented Sept. 20, 1927.
PATENT OFFICE JAMES NOLAN FOWLER, OF MOBILE, ALABAMA.
HEEL-ATTACHING DEVICE.
Application filed January 7, 1926. Serial No. 79,738.
This invention relates to attaching devices for the heels of shoes.
The object of this invention is to provlde an improvedattaching device, and particularly adapted to the attachment of rubber heels but not limited thereto.
A further object of this invention is to provide a device by which a rubber heel may be quickly attached and detached, and which reinforces the heel, provides for wearing of the rubber, which is quickly and easily attached and detached with the heel element which supports the rubber heel. r
A further object of this invention is 'to provide a device of this character which is quickly and easily installed, and which may be manufactured at a minimum cost, and which adds to the appearance of the shoe.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, I have invented the device shown in the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective of the lower part of the rear of a shoe, having my device attached;
Figure 2 is a perspective of my device;
Figure 3 is a perspective of a rubber heel adapted to be used with my device;
Figuret is a longitudinal section through my attaching device.
Figure 5 is a front elevation of the at taching device, and
. Figure 6 is a transverse section through a heel provided with my attachment.
Like reference characters indicate like parts throughoutthe several views and in the specification, in which there is provided: a rubber heel 2, having a channel 3, extending inwardly around the circular portion of the heel, that isto say; extending entirely along the sides and rear of the heel. I further provide an attaching plate 4, having a perpendicular to the plane of the base in the form of a flange 5, which flan e 5 terminates in an inward tongue 6, whichtongue 6 fits within the channel 3 and is spaced 6 from the bare an equal distance to the spacing of the channel 3 from the side of the rubber heel, preferably. so that by sliding the rearward portion of the heel upon the plate 4:, the tongueti will seat within the channel 3, as clearly shown in Fi re 1. Preferably, the channel 3 is media ly disposed between the upper and lower edges of the insert heel 2, whereby the heel 2 may be reversed when Worn upon one side. As 65 a means of attaching the plate 4 to the major heel portion 7, which portion 7 is generally built up of rubber or leather sections, I provide screw holes 8, adapted to receive screws 9, and also I provide struckout V-shaped nails formed from the base of the plate 4, the struck outs 10 incline toward the rear of the plate 4 and thus permit a rubber heel to be readily inserted but upon a retrograde movement of the heel these struck out members prick into the rubber and form stops to prevent withdrawal movement.
I claim:
A heel socket consisting of a base the full size of a heel, having a continuous flange forming a socket, in combination with a heel lift having a recess around three sides thereof, the flange of the socket member engaging said recess, and means for locking the heel in the socket, said heel being formed of 76 rubber, and said locking means consisting of prongs struck out from the socket.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMESNOLAN FOWLER.
