PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN HAMMOND PALMER, OF ROSSLAND, BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA.
SIPHON.
Application filed August 16,1926. Serial No. 129,513.
\ This invention relates to improvements in siphons and the objects of the invention are to `provide a simply constructed, durable device of this character, adapted to be used` in a home for siphoning milk away from cream or for any other suitable purpose.
A further object of my invention is to provide a valveless siphon for use in laboratories also adapted to siphon gasoline, oil and the like.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, the invention comprises a valveless siphon of suitable material with junction tubes having a bulbar enlargement, and a curved base registering therewith respectively.
Referring now to the drawings in which like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in each figure;
Figure 1 is a front elevation in section of my improved valveless siphon.
Figure Q is a modified form..
In the drawings, 10clesignates an intake tube of the siphon in which a plunger 11 is provided. The bottom of this tube is open and is curved as at 12, a second and parallel tube 13, constituting the short leg ofthe Siphon being formed with a bulbar enlargement 14 to enable the area of opening 15 to discharge the same quantity of fluid as the,
suitably bent continuation 16 of the tube 13.
In operation and as shown, the tubes 10 and 18 are inserted into the container 17 with liquid therein as at 18, and with plunger 11 down. The column of air will remain in the straight portion of the tube 10 when as the plunger 11 is raised slowly, the
fluid enters at 15 and is raised in the tube 10. The plunger is then pushed down more forcibly pushing fluid into the tube 13 and 40 discharge continuation thereof 16vto be discharged, thus starting the siphon which automatically continues until the container is emptied.
The modified form shown in Figure 2 is similar in construction to Figure 1, only having the bulbar enlargement 14 eliminated. n
As many changes could be made in the above construction, and many apparently Widely different embodiments of my invention, within the scope of the claims, constructed without departing from the spirit or scope thereof, it is intended that all matter contained in the accompanying specification and drawings shall be interpreted as illustrative, and not in a` limiting sense.
What I claim as my invention is:
' A device of the character described and in Combination, a single length of tube bent twice on itself to form the long limb and the short limb of a Siphon, a third limb integral with the short limb, a bulbous enlargement formed on the short limb, a partitioning element integral with the third limb and extending into the enlargement and conforming to the contour thereof to divide the enlargement into two passageways communicating directly with the short limb and the third limb respectively, and a port in the enlargement.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand.
' JOHN HAMMOND PALMER.
