DOUBLE-SWINGING-MIRROR COMPACT CASE.
Application tiled November 23, 1922. Serial No. 602,678.
This invention relates to vanity cases and has forits main object to provide a devfce of the mentioned character, composed of two separate boxes, containing powder, rouge and possibly other necessary cosmetics.l and having a double faced swinging mirror h etween them. 'Said mirror is arrangei'l in such a way as to constitute a dividing partition between the two boxes, whensaid boxes and said swinging mirror are closed together, while its two surfaces will be used as mirrors in a novel, practical and handy manner when it is desired to apply the cosmetics contained in the two boxes.
Another object of my invention is to provide such a double vanity case with a double swinging mirror of the mentioned character, which will make use of my improved unitary hinge device, described and claimed in my application for Letters Patent led July 15, 1922, Serial No. 575,264, an which also will have the improved means for securing and exchanging the rouge and similar compacts, described and claimed in my application for a combination vanity case, filed 4September 20, 1922, Serial N o. 591,017.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledgeoI' the details of construction of' the same for effecting the various results mentfoned hereinbefore, reference isfto be had to the following description and accompanying drawings.
While the essential and characteristicfeatures of the invention are susceptible of modiication, still the preferred embodiment of the invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which `ig. 1 is a perspective view of'my double vanity case wit-h the double swinging mirror 1n an open position; the dotted lines showing an alternative position which the mirror may have instead of being located diametrically opposite the hinge joining the two boxes,
Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same in aL closed position, the section being taken on the line 2-2 of Fig. 3;
F ig. 3 is4 another erosslsectional view of the same in a closed position, taken in a perpendicular direction to the section plane ofthe previous figure, as indicated by the numerals 3 3 in Fi ure 2.
Referring more c osely to the drawings, the numerals 4 and 5 indicate the lower and nplper boxes of my vanity case, respectively, w ile 6 is a unitary hinge construction connecting said two boxes and referred to hereinbefore. A powder compact 7is secured in the lower box 4 by any of the standard means and it preferably fills the wholel width of said box. 'lhe upper box 5 has a ring 8, secured therein by friction on its walls.`
or by any other suitable means, and having` one or more impressions or recesses 9, as more fully described in thesfecond one of my above mentioned patent applications. Within said impressionsor recesses are secured the rouge compact 10,` in the manner l described in'said second patent application, and said recesses may also be formed in such a manner as to be adapted tol receive other cosmetic preparations and necessities. Preferably at a point directly opposite to the hinge device 6, I secure to the upper surface of the ring 8 an angle piece lllwhich serves as one part of thehinge device 12, used to hingedly secure my double mirror i 13 to said ring. Said double mirror is preferably made of two mirrors 14 and 15, se- Lcuredv together by the circiimferential ring 16 and prongs 17, provided at the two sides of said circumferential ring. i the vanity case, the mirror 13 is folded down into the inside of `box 5, covering the rouge or other cosmetic devices contained therein, and then said box is closed' uponthe lower box 4, so that the mirror 13 will constitute Aa dividing partition between the contents of said two boxes. Powder puffs may be placed onl top of the rouge and powder compacts, and the mirrorv serves-as a division between them also, folding down upon the rouge puff and taking a position between said puff and the powder puff in the other box, when said two `boxes are in a closed position. The two-sides of the furthest free end of the mirror 13 may have a catch, and locking devices 18 and 19, respectively.4 Locking device 19' cooperates with an opening 20 in ring 8, while the mirror maybe swung into an open position by the catch'18.
My` double compact vanity case with its double faced outwardly swinging mirror will permit the handy use of all the standard cosmetics, like powder, rouge, lip stick and so on, with one opening movement of it and with one very handy and easylswinging 'motion of the mirror. When it is desired to use the large powder compact in the bot-` tom box 4, the two boxes are opened, mirror 13l moving box 5, the powder compact 7 is madel use in a folded position with the top f su'I When closing'VVV of `voy tifo ima pla-ood thereon and looking into the outside mirror surface 14; whereupon the mirror is swung 1nto an entirely open position, asL shown in Fig. l, and the desired cosmetics arranged in the recess 9 of ring 8, in top box 5, maybe used, looking into the inside mirror surface 15. It should be understood that ythe ring 8 may be formed by Letters Patent is :T-
A. Vanity case comprising a body for re ceivlng a toilet compact, a lid hinged to said body and having a ring for receiving and retaining a toilet compact, a doublefaced mirror pivotally supported on said ring and a fastening element at the opposite side of the mirror from its supporting pivot adapted to project through said ring and hold the mirror in closed position said mirror being adapted to swing at an angle to the swing of the other of said members and adapted to form a closure for the lid being adapted to fold over the bottom so that access may be`had to the contents of the lid at the time the mirror is used, substantially as set forth'.
