Description

1,626,311 A nl 2 1927' E. s. TIPTON BEAUTY COMPACT Filed- Dec. 24, 1926 INVENTOR ATTORNEY Patented, Apr. 26, 1927.
EDNA SIBLEY TIPTON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
BEAUTY COMPACT.
Application filed December 24, 1926.. Serial No. 156,811.
The object of this invention is to supply a small, compact, artistic container suitable for carrying a plurality of beauty aids such as are used by women in the art of facial adornment.
.This device is especially adapted to be carried in a ladys handbag.
in the art of facial adornment, as it is practiced today many substances, aids or de tails are required to produce the effects deemed necessary to an artistic adornment.
All the details shown and mentioned in the following specification are complementary to each other and their co-ordinate use is deemed necessary to a production of a harmonious and beautifying and attractive result.
One form of construction whereby my inventive idea may be suitably embodied is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawings in which:
Fig. -1 is a side elevation of my improved beauty compact.
Fig. 2 is an end view. s
Fig. 3 is a central, transverse section and shows the details-as contained and arranged in the lateral compartments.
Fig. 4 is a central longitudinal section of my device with all accessories removed therefrom.
Fig. 5 is a side elevation of a small container suitable for use with this compact and is used to contain face powder.
Fig. 6 is a side elevation of a cylindrical container used with this compact for containing two substances in paste form.
Fig. 7 is a side elevation of a perfume container and shows the same in position in a carrying member of the compact.
Fig. 8 is a side view of a lip-stick and eyebrow pencil in position in a tubular holder.
Fig. 9 is a longitudinal section of a carrying member of this compact for an eye-brow brush showing the brush in position therein.
Fig. 10 is a perspective view of my improved .compact showing the lid of a slde compartment in the open position w1th the accessories shown in Fig. '3 removed from said compartment.
In detail the construction illustrated in said drawings is as follows:
Mounted within a suitable casing or body as 1 are two tubular barrels 2 and 3, the
' open endsof which are each supplied with a closure member 4, 5, 6, 7, all of which members are identical in construction and are provided with inwardly facing sockets 8 as indicated in the lefthand end of Fig. 4;
said sockets are adapted for the insertion of an end portion of a receptacle for suitable accessories whereby said closure members are adapted to form'carriers for such receptables, as shown in Figs. 5, 6, 7, 8 and 9.
The receptacle 9 shown in Fig. 5 is a container for face powder; that shown in Fig.
6 and designated as 10 is a double compart-' ment container for rouge and mascara; that shown in Fig. 7 and designated as 11, is a container for perfnmeythose shown in Fig. 8 and designated as 12 and 13 are holders for lip-stick and eye-brow pencil; and that shown in Fig. 9 and designated as 14 is a container for an eye-brow brush, 15.
Each of said closure members is readily insertable within and removable from= its respective end of said barrels and each of said holders 9, 10, 11, 12 and 14 is readily insertable into and removable from its respective socket; furthermore all of said closure members are preferably identical in size and construction. The purpose of such identity is to facilitate the matter of replenishing and renewing the various beauty aids as needed and to insure the desirable object that all refills, when sold apart from the original, complete compact shall properly {it into and be carriable by said closure memers.
Said casing or body 1 is also formed into or'provided with two side compartments 16 and 17 which are disposed upon opposite sides of said tubular members. Each of said compartments is supplied with ,a hinged cover 18 and 19 respectively, and the inner side of said cover may be provided with a mirror 20see Fig. 10. The peripheral face of the respectively adjacent portions of said tubular barrels 2 and 3 preferably form the bottom of each of said side compartmentssee Fig. 10.
Said side compartments are adapted for the reception of certain beauty aid accessories as follows: see Fig. 3; compartment 16 may contain a cake of face powder 21, r
drawings, or it may be an integral structure,
molded or cast, as desired, and as best suited to the nature of the material employed.
Attention is hereby directed to Letters Patent of the United States, No. 1,609,443, issued to me on the 7th day of December, 1926, and to which this invention is intended to form a companion article.
I claim the following:
1. In a beauty compact, the combination of a casing formed at opposite ends with openings, a plurality of parallel tubular chambers in the casing and communicating with the openings therein, said chambers being spaced from two opposite sides of the casin to form receptacles closed at their ends y the end walls of the casing, and adapted to carry beauty accessories, a closure member for each open end of the tubular chambers, said members being provided with inwardly facing sockets to carry beauty accessories, complementary to those carried in the receptacles, and hinged lids on opposite sides of the casing to form closures for the receptacles.
2. In a beauty compact the combination of a casing having a plurality of openings at opposite ends, and having hinged lids on 0pposite sides, mirrors on the inner surfaces of said lids, a plurality of tubular members mounted lengthwise in the casing and open at their opposite ends and communicating with the openings in the opposite ends of the casings, connecting means between the tubular members and secured to the ends of the casingto sub-divide said casing, the sides of the tubular members and the connecting means being spaced from the hinged lids to form receptacles to receive beauty accessories, closures for the open ends of the tubular members, each closure having a tubular socket to support beauty accessories complementary to the beauty accessories inthe receptacles.
3. In a beauty aid, the combination of a casing having opposite hinged lids each of which is provided on its inner surface with a mirror, a plurality ofchambers in the easing, each chamber being open at opposite ends, the sides of the tubular members being spaced from the hinged lids to form receptacles for beauty aids, closures for the open end of the tubular members, each closure having a flanged head and an inwardly ex tended socket, the sockets fitting in the ends of the tubular members and receiving beauty aids complementary to the beauty aids in the receptacles.
4. In a beauty'compact, an organization comprising .a plurality of tubular, relatively parallel containers provided with tubular closure members removably carried in each end of said containers; the combination with the foregoing of a receptacle formed by said organization upon opposite sides of and in like lateral relation to said tubular containers respectively, and hinged closure members for said receptacles.
In testimony whereof I aiiix my signature.
