UNITED STATES PATENT OEFIOE.
GEORGE H. THOMPSON, OF GEORGETOWN, DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-TABLES.
Specitlcation forming part of Letters Patent No. 162,587, dated April 27, 1875; application liltd April 12, 1875.
To all whom vt may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE H. THOMPSON, of Georgetown, District of Columbia, have invented a new and useful Device for Glossing or Ironing Shirt-Bosoms, the nature ot' which is set forth in the following specication, ret'- erence being had to the accom panyin g drawings, in which- Figure I represents a rectangular board, E, about twenty inches long and ten Wide, and usually an inch thick, or of convenient size to admit upon it, in a spread condition, the bosom of a shirt. To the back ot' this are attached two cross-pieces, A A, about an inch wide, which extend beyond the edges of the board on either side, about three inches on the right and one inch upon the left, the ends projecting from the right side being notched or hollowed.
In Fig. II, B represents a frame ot' less thickness than the board in Fig. I, and is made to n't over it` It is about one inch and a quarter wide, excepting the right side, which is about two inches broad and beveled or rounded upon its outer edge, to lit to the notches in the ends of the cross-pieces shown in Fig. I. Those notches and the beveled edge of the frame, when united, form a kind of hinge by which l the frame can be easilyT and expeditiously attached to or removed from the board.
The object of my invention is to stretch and hold shirt-bosoms in a convenient form for the purpose ot glossing or ironing them. This is done bytirst placing the board represented in Fig. I inside the shirt, with the bosom spread upon it, then placing the frame over the-shirt and board. At the right the shirt is held between the frame and the curved ends of the cross-pieces A A, and at the let't by the projecting ends ot' the cross-pieces and frame, and the button C, and at the lower end by the button D.
I am aware of the patent of T. H. Eaton, No. 157,680, patented December 15, 1874; but I do not claim any of the devices in said patent as my invention.
I claim as my invention- The combination ofthe board E with the extended notched cross-pieces A A and the frame B, with a broadside beveled or rounded upon its outer edge, with the buttons C and l), substantially for the purpose set forth.
Witnesses: GEO. H. THOMPSON.
