IMPROVEMENT IN lRONlNG-BOARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 161,053, dated March 23, 1875; application filed February 3, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MYRON E. MOORE, of Auburn, in the county of Androscoggin, State of Maine, have inventeda certain new and use ful Improvement in Ironing-Boards, of which the following is a description suificiently full, clear, and exact to enable any person skilled in the art or science to which my invention pertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which Figure 1 is an isometrical perspective view, showing the top of the board; and Fig.2, a like View, showing the bottom of the same.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the different figures of the drawing.
My invention relates more especially to that class of ironing-boards which are designed for domestic use in doing up or ironing shirtbosoms; and consists in a novel construction and arrangement of the parts, as hereinafter more fully set forth and claimed, the object .being to produce an effective device of this character. 1
In the drawing, A represents the table or body of the board; B, the collar-slide; O,
the key for securing the collar-slide; D, the stretcher or frictional slide, and g the frame to which the table is attached. One end of the body or table A is cut out or curved, as shown at x, the slide B being so shaped as to conform thereto, and provided with the bar F, fitted to slide in a rundlet or aperture in the cross-bar f of the frame 9 g. The stretcher D is provided with a bar, e, fitted to slide in the cross-bar f, and has its upper surface covered with sand paper or emery-cloth (not shown) at E, or next the under part of the table A. The key 0 is bent to form the V-shaped springc, and Worksina slot cut in the bar]? the stud d, which projects from the under side of the body A, being designed to prevent the entire or accidental withdrawal of the key.
In the use of my improvement the board is inserted in the shirt, the bosom of the same being brought immediately down or onto the body A. The collar-board is then placed between the curved portion or of the body and the slide B, and secured by the key 0, the spring 0 yielding to compensate for any inequalities in the band. After the upper portion of the bosom is thus secured it is spread or smoothed evenly on the table A, and fastened at the bottom by being inserted between the slide D and the table A, after which the slide is pushed in, the sandpaper acting by friction to exert the requisite tension on the cloth and stretch and hold the bosom properly in place on the table, in a manner which will be readily obvious to all conversant with such matters without a more explicit description.
Having thus explained my invention, what I claim is- The improved ironing'board described, the
same consisting of the body A, provided with the curved collar-slide B, spring-key O, and frictional stretcher D, constructed and arranged to operate substantially as and for the purpose specified.
