TROUSERS PRESSER AND CREASER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Sept. 4, 1906.
Application filed February 2'7. 1906. Serial No. 303,167.
To all whom it mag concern.-
Be it known that I, ROBERT M. TATE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Somerset, in the county of Pulaski and State of Kentucky, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Trousers Pressers and Creasers, of which the following is a specification.
-My invention is an improvement in trousers-creasers and it consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts, as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a detail perspective view of the invention as in use, the parts being adjusted to position for creasing the trousers. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the device with the apron-lever thrown back and the apron slacked, as in applying trousers to the bed. Fig. 3 is a detail longitudinal section drawn through the bed and showing the leg folded thereunder. Fig. 4 is a cross-section of the bed, and Fig. 5 is a detail view illustrating the coat-rack attachment.
My improvement, as shown, comprises a curved bed A, a flexible apron B, and means for drawing the flexible apron tightly over the curved bed, as will be more fully described. As shown, the bed A has the curved side bars A arranged at one end A to rest upon the floor or other support and having at their other ends the laterally-projecting studs A on which fulcrums the lever C for drawing the flexible apron B tightly over the bed. The boards A extend between the side bars A and form a smooth curved bed upon which the trousers may be creased. At its end opposite the feet A the bed is provided with a folding leg D, pivoted at D at its upper end in connection with the bed and preferably curved so it may coincide with the curvature of the bed when folded against the same, as will be understood from the drawings.
The apron B, which may be of any suitable canvas or other fabric or material, is secured at one end B, preferably at the lower end of the bed and adjacent to the feet A and connects at its other end with the means for drawing the apron tightly over the bed. Such means are shown as a lever C, provided between its ends with a roller C, to which the free end of the apron is secured, so its tension may be adjusted, the roller being provided with perforations near its ends to receive the pins 0 by which it may be held in any suitable adjustment. At one end the lever C has a handle portion C and its opposite end is notched at C for engagement with the studs A at the upper end of the bedof the creaser. The lever can thus be operated to draw the apron tightly over the bed and yet can be readily detached from the bed whenever it is desired to apply or remove the trousers from the device. The lever thus forms a straining device for drawing the apron tightly over the bed, and the latter being curved, as shown, enables me to secure a strong pressure upon the trousers placed upon the curved bed, so that the apron will press tightly thereon when tension is applied through the straining-lever, as before described,
By means of the curved board and the flexible apron it will be noticed I am enabled to secure uniform pressure on the trousers, and this pressure may be assisted in forming the crease by pressing with the hand or some other substance, an iron, if necessary, upon the apron, as will be understood by those accustomed to the use of this class of devices. When the lever is drawn down to position to strain the apron over the bed, it will be stopped by engagement with the leg D, as shown. The flexible apron is made so as to conform to all inequalities in thickness in the garment, thus giving pressure to every portion thereof and securing a perfect creasing as may be desired.
In order to support the coat while the trousers are being creased, I provide a coatrack, as best shown in Fig. 5, and comprising a hanger E, pivoted at E to a bar F, which is preferably curved to correspond with the curvature of the bed A, has the hanger E at one end, and is swiveled at its other end at F in a pin or bolt turning in one of the side bars A of the bed, so the coat-rack can be readily adjusted to position for use, as shown in Fig. 5, or may be folded against the side of the bed when not in use. By this means the coat may be supported in good shape while the trousers are being creased, the creasing-board thus forming a support for both the trousers and coat and may be so utilized while the user is sleeping.
The brace G is pivoted at G in connection with the bed and is provided at its other end with a bolt G and thumb-nut G the bolt operating in a slot (Z in the leg D. By this means the thumb-nut G may be tightened when the parts are in the position shown in Figs. 1 and 2 to hold the leg when adjusted to support the lifted end of the bed.
Having thus described my invention, What Iclaim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1 Atrousers-creaser substantially as herein described, comprising a bed having curved side bars adapted at one end to rest on the floor or other support and provided at their other ends with pivot-studs forming bearings for a straining-lever, a board extending between the side bars of the bed, a
leg pivoted to the upper end of the bed, a flemble apron secured at one end to the lower end of the bed, a straining-levernotched to engage with the pivot-studs of' the bed, and a roller carried by said lever. and to which the upper free end of the apron is secured.
2. A trousers-creaser comprising a curved bed and a flexible apron to be drawn there- &
over whereby to crease a garment placed between said apron and bed.
3. A trousers-creaser consisting of a curved 1 ranged for operation thereby.
6. A trousers-brewer comprising a curved bed, a flexible apron, and a device in connection with the apron for giving the same tension toward the bed.
7. A trousers-creaser comprising a curved bed, a flexible apron secured atyoneendto the bed, and a lever to which the other or free end of the apron is secured.
8. A trousers-creaser comprising a curved bed, a leg pivoted to the bed adjacent to one end thereof, a lever fulcrumed in connection with such end of the bed, and an apron secured at one end to the lever and arranged to be drawn tightly over the bed.
9. A trousers-creaser having a curved bed provided at one end with pivot-studs, a lever notched for detachable engagement with said studs, and an apron secured at one end to the bed and at its other end to the lever and ar- I 10. The combination in a trousers-creaser with a curved bed, an apron and means for stretching the apron over the bed, of a leg for supporting one end of the bed, and a brace for the leg pivoted at one end to the bed and having a sliding connection at its other end with the leg, substantially asset forth.
