This invention relates to ahat construction and embodies an arrangement whereby same is suitable for wear during all seasons ot the' year and in addition is capable of ventilation.
More specifically. the present invention includes a hat, the frame .or body of which is shaped from wire mesh, preferably" ot non-corrosive character and is subsequently covered by any suitable material to give the -proper style or appearance. 'lhe covering is designed and secured in position in such a manner as to permit partial removal or adjustment from the screen body thereby facilitating .such 'ventilation as may bc dcsired.
Other novel features ot' construction will more clearly hereinafter appear by reference to the. following description and drawings.. wherein like numerals of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the seyeral Views, in which Figure l is a perspective view; and
Figure 2 is 'a verticalr section.
Referring to the drawings, reference character 1 designates the frame or body whichV is formed from a suitable non-corrosive metallic mesh, such as brass screening, by stamping or shaping in a press or the like. Obviously, while the present illustration represents one conventional type of present day hat, any suitable shape can be made to meet the demandsA of the market and the change in thestyles. In the shaping of the body,V the crown 2 and rim 3 can be shaped as an integral structure .or can be made separately and assembled in any suitable manner.
A covering 4 of any suitable material is secured to the top surface of the rim and a similar covering 5 vfaces the bottom. An edging 6 binds the` peripheral edge of the rim and encloses the adjacent edges of vthe rim coverings t and 5 to produce a finished appearance. i Y
The covering for the crown is made in vthc sections 7r and 8. The lower section 7 terminating at a', point approximately inter- .mediate the` height of the crown andthe upper portion 8 terminating short of the upper edgtgot' the lower section a suitable distance to permit the insertion of the ventilating flap l0. rl`his flap 10 is secured as by stitching to the portion 8 and itsl lower edge is free to permit folding upwardly, either wholly or in part.
In the event ventilation is desired as in warm weather, the lower free edge of the flap l0 may be turned backward upon itself any extent desired. which will permit air to gain access to the interior of the hat through the metallic mesh frame. The usual band 1l is' shown to produce a finished article.
From the foregoing it will be seen that a structure has been provided of a permanent character which, due to the lements of its construction, is capable ot' use in any season .and which will not readily lose its. shape and proper appearance. In addition by the use of various covering materials and by changing the styles the demands throughout the various parts of the country, due to climatic conditions, can be more readily satisfied. Modifications in the details of construction and arrangement of parts can be made without departing from the spirit of the invention'.
1What I claim as new and desire to secure by-'L'etters Patent is:
A hat including a body ormedof one piece of metallic ,screening shaped to providea-crown portion and a rim portion, a ring-like covering fitted over the rim portion and extending upwardly on the inside and thevoutside of the crown to reinforce the fold in said body which defines between the crown and rim portions, a covering on ythe outside top portionof the crownV and ls paced at its edge from the first mentioned covering, and a band joined at its upper edge to the crown covering in a manner toprevent bulging,.the said band constituting a Ventilating flap which extends to but is free from the outer edge -of the ring-like covering when in a closed position and is adapted to be upwardly' folded to expose the body." y i In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
